The long-time servent of the game is eager to see his side back where they belong – in the DStv Premiership.

The last time Cosmos played in the South African top-flight was in the 2015/16 season, while last term they ended in ninth place.

The club have snapped up Kassiano Soares Mendonca, Lucas Fernandez and Luri Barbosa from Brazil and they all played in the goalless draw with Cape Town Spurs on Sunday.

Cosmos are currently bottom of the Championship standings, with one point from three games played.

Sono told KickOff: “They only made their debut yesterday. They are very good players. They’re still trying to acclimatise but so far so good, and they are looking good.

“They helped us a lot yesterday, and we were unlucky not to win.

“It’s always the case when you coach a young team. You need to exercise great leadership. I have been through this before.

“We lost the first game because we were robbed, the second game we lost fair and square. After losing two matches in succession, the youngsters will always become nervous, but I am happy they are adjusting well.”
