Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane has explained why Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has been overlooked by head coach Stuart Baxter this season after his shining performance in the 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday.

Ngcobo made Chiefs tick in the 2-0 victory on their return to action after a two-week hiatus as the 22-year-old grabbed a goal and an assist. His technique for his goal was top-class as well as the vision and composure he showed to set up Phathutshedzo Nange for a simple tap-in.

It has led to questions as to why he is not in favour with Baxter, having made 23 appearances for Amakhosi last campaign. And Zwane seemed to suggest that last season’s exertions took their toll on Ngcobo and that is the reason for his baffling omission.

“You know sometimes in football, more especially when we come from a season that was tough for us because we played in the Champions League as well as the domestic league and cup games at the same time, him and Njabulo (Blom) and many other youngsters played a lot of games,” said Zwane.

“You could see them dropping a little bit in terms of having fatigue here and there. We had to manage him and we can see now that he is coming back. He is alive again and we are happy to see him like this – showcasing his talent and performing like he did.”
