PREVIEW: Group C & F take centre stage as Copa Libertadores action returns

It’s an early start for us on Friday morning, with a few good clashes in the Copa Libertadores! I’ve put together my thoughts and predictions on the weekend fixtures, with a few straightforward bankers as well as the necessary outlier!

Friday 30 June

Boca Juniors 1/4 | Draw 38/10 | Monagas 9/1 (00:00)

Boca Juniors will certainly be wanting to return to winning ways when they entertain Monagas on Friday, and the bookmakers certainly see them doing just that. Boca Juniors are used to bossing the ball around, but having just two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes of their last game would have raised some cause for concern…

Monagas come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Deportivo Pereira. That would have done their confidence some good, but they will know they face an entirely different prospect here. 1/4 about the Boca Juniors win is too short for me, I suggest getting stuck into both teams scoring (no) at 5/10.

Colo-Colo 6/10 | Draw 51/20 | Deportivo Pereira 44/10 (00:00)

Neither side were able to claim a victory last time out, Colo-Colo went down to Boca Juniors whilst Deportivo Pereira suffered a defeat at the hands of Monagas. Neither side have produced any positive statistics when it comes to their attacking prowess and so trying to find a winner might prove rather difficult.

The home side are clear (and I suppose you could say ‘rightful’) favourites, but for my money I’m on the draw at 51/20.

Palmeiras 1/8 | Draw 6/1 | Bolivar 18/1 (02:00)

This could be a possible banana-skin game for the hosts. They are worthy favourites, however, there does exist a proverbial spanner in these works. The hosts will likely dominate possession, but it’s what they do with that possession which is sometimes less clear. Furthermore, their defensive ability seems incredibly fragile. Shipping an average of five goals per six games might be the opening Bolivar needs.

The visitors come into the game brimming with confidence but also with a superior scoring ability. They have scored 13 times in their last six games! 18/1 might deserve a tickle…but both teams scoring at 31/20 might be shrewd option.

Barcelona SC 15/20 | Draw 47/20 | Cerro Porteno 32/10 (02:00)

Barcelona SC are another side who have struggled defensively. They conceded an average of 1.25 goals per game so far. Cerro Porteno will be hoping to give their travelling fans something to celebrate, however, history and current form seems to disagree.

Not only have the visitors conceded a heap of goals, but they also struggle to convert in front of goal as well. I know that the last time these two faced off it was Porteno who ran out victorious, this time around I think the hosts right that wrong.
