Bafana Bafana maintain unbeaten run

South Africa remain unbeaten in their last four matches following a win and a draw against Mozambique and Angola in respectively in Mbombela.

In the first of the two friendlies, South Africa defeated Mozambique 2-1 on Thursday before taking on Angola on Sunday.

The first match against Mozambique showcased the brilliance of USA-based forward Bongi Hlongwane, who turned things around for Hugo Broos’ men in the second half to ensure Bafana retain their pride at home.

However, it was the visitors who got themselves onto the scoresheet first, following an error at the back by Bafana Bafana which allowed Nelson Daniel Divrassone to open the scoring in the 13th minute.

Within the space of three minutes, Bongi Hlongwane’s impact and quality was felt, as he turned the game around to give Bafana Bafana a hard-fought victory.

Bafana secured a 1-1 draw against a stronger Angolan side at the Mbombela stadium in the second friendly. Zakhele Lepasa’s 28th-minute penalty cancelled out Ambrosini Salvador’s 20th-minute header which had earlier given CHAN-bound Angola a lead.

Bafana winger Kgaugelo Sekgota was given a controversial foul inside the box by Botswana referee Joshua Bondo. Lepasa made no mistake from the spot, and it was all enough to leave Hugo Broos satisfied with his side’s two friendlies.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies turned their focus to domestic action following their CAFWCL disappointment in Morocco. Sundowns had little time to rest before going out to face Coal City Wizards on 17 November – thrashing the Witbank side 7-0.

Although Sundowns have an unassailable lead at the top of the log and are already declared champions for the second season in a row, the professionalism in their preparation and application on the field have both been greatly commended. They currently enjoy a 14-point lead lead with a game in hand – scoring 119 goals.

Meanwhile, the Durban Ladies cruised to a 4-0 victory at home against City Lads to move to 10th on the standings, while Royal AM Ladies defeated Coal City Wizards 1-0 at home to remain fifth on the table.
