The 28-year-old right-back joined the Brazilians from Golden Arrows in 2021 but was immediately sent back to his former team on loan.

He has been fighting for a place in Rulani Mokwena’s starting eleven this term and has played the last four games for the club, including two DStv Premiership matches, a CAF Champions League tie and Nedbank Cup encounter.

The team were unbeaten in all four games and are still unbeaten in the league after 16 clashes.

They most recently hammered AmaZulu 3-0 on Wednesday with Lucas Ribeiro grabbing a hat-trick.

Reflecting on his time on the pitch, Lunga said in the Citizen: “I’m happy to be playing. I’m gaining a lot of confidence. I’m surrounded by players who keep supporting me.”

Talk around the club suggests Sundowns could go the whole season unbeaten in the Premiership.

Lunga added: “At Sundowns, we have to win each and every game. The effort we put on the field and at training, I think that’s where it comes from.

“The focus is to win each and every game. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big or small game. I know no one wants to lose but at Sundowns we always want to win every game whether it’s a friendly, league or cup game.”
