Spurs secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday to continue their incredible points-tallying momentum.

The result means Middendorp’s side have registered seven points from a possible nine in their last three DStv Premiership fixtures. To move within just two points of Richards Bay in the relegation playoff spot in 15th.

“We are definitely on our journey in chasing something impossible,” Middendorp said post-match.

“We are on our way, but it will take time.

“We work hard, and we’ve also seen some players for the first time [making their debut], such as [Spesihle] Maduna who received his first minutes. [Denwin] Farmer trained with us for three days and had his first minutes and Tshepo Gumede came in and has been with us for just four or five days.

“Some other players definitely have more potential, but as I say and I will repeat myself again, and again, we must remain humble.

“We must not fall into a comfort zone, and if we do so then you destroy your own potential. That would definitely not be the right way.

“But, we’re very happy and in three days we’ll have our next challenge with Stellenbosch on Saturday.”

Middendorp was also involved in a heated flashpoint with opposing Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro over a penalty decision.

“It was a fantastic time 30 years ago when you had [Giovanni] Trapattoni, Franz Beckenbauer, Jurgen Klopp and so on, I can continue where I coached in the Bundesliga. Which I did over many years on the sidelines, and something has never happened like this tonight. I don’t know what it is, but it’s definitely something that if somebody wants a reaction, he’ll get it, simple and easy.

“Colleagues being colleagues in the soccer industry, particularly here in South Africa is non-existent, let’s be very, very clear and honest.:
