SuperSport United move to second spot after Cape Town City victory

Eric Tinkler’s Cape Town City saw their perfect start to the new campaign ended in a 1-0 defeat against SuperSport United on Friday night.

Gaving Hunt’s men needed a strong response after drawing 0-0 with AmaZulu before being eliminated from the MTN8 by Stellenbosch.

Etiosa Ighodaro struck in the 62nd minute to help SuperSport go two points behind PSL log leaders Masandawana while City lost for the first time this season.

Royal AM humbled at home by  Stellies

Stellenbosch walked away with maximum points from the Harry Gwala Stadium after humbling hosts Royal AM to a 3-1 thrashing on Friday afternoon.

It was Sphiwe Cele’s incredible 30th-minute strike that put Thwihli Thahla in the lead, but Steve Barker’s men returned stronger in the second half with goals from Deano van Rooyen, Jayden Adams and Iqraam Rayners.

AmaZulu, Richards Bay remain winless after goalless stalemate

Both sides met at the Moses Mabhida Stadium looking to register their first wins of the new season, but it was the Natal Rich Boyz who walked away with their first point after playing to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

AmaZulu are now the only team without a goal in the league this season, with all three of their draws ending goalless. They will be concerned at this fact, but Richards Bay will also welcome a point to their name on the board after losing their opening two fixtures.

Spurs’ false start to new season continues

Cape Town Spurs’ poor start to the new season continued when they registered a third successive defeat in the league against fellow newcomers Polokwane City on Saturday.

The 3-1 thrashing inside the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium came as a result of individua mistakes from the Urban Warriors, as City got on the score sheet in the 15th minute through Ikamva old boy Oshwin Appolis. Appolis would end the game with a brace, along with Douglas Mapfumo who netted after the hour mark for Rise and Shine.

Spurs got their consolation through Khaya Mfecane but it the three points were already secured by City.

After a shaky start to the season, Polokwane built on last week’s win over Stellenbosch and now sit third on the table.

Sundowns easily dispose of Chippa

Mamelodi Sundowns made lightwork of Morgan Mammila’s Chippa United when the sides met inside the Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilians did not have too many problems in breaking down the Chilli Boys’ defence to register their fourth win in four games this season, where they have scored 10 goals and conceded only two.

The win means that Sundowns have accumulated 12 points so early in the season and they lead second-placed SuperSport United by five.

Scenes as angry fans hurl objects at coach Molefi Ntseki after loss to TS Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs were far from convincing in their 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy when the sides met on Sunday at the Mombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

This is a second league defeat for Amakhosi this season, and it came as a result of Brandon Petersen’s own goal after Higor Vidal’s shot initially hit the post before it rebounded off the goalkeeper’s hand to find the back of the net.
