The Brazilians welcomed Amakhosi at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe stadium on Wednesday afternoon where the Soweto giants were overpowered in a 2-1 defeat – handing them their first loss of the season.

Coach Molefi Ntseki’s men were nowhere to be found in the first-half of the clash as the home side dominated the ball possession and even denied the visitors a shot on target.

In the 21st minute, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and newly signed midfielder Edson Castillo had a miss communication error at the back which led to the Brazilian international Lucas Ribeiro Costa pouncing to give Sundowns a much-deserved lead. The game went into the half-time break with Kaizer Chiefs trailing.

In the 2nd-half the visitors looked much better as substitute Tebogo Potsane took it upon himself to dribble passed Brain Onyango and deliver a cross into the box which Ashley Du Preez met with a perfect run to slot it in and make it 1-1 in the 84th minute.

However, the Brazilians were quick to respond as a Noe Maema shot slipped through Peterson’s hands to give Downs the winning goal in the 90th minute.

Speaking after the game Amakhosi coach Mofeli Ntseki defended Brandon Peterson’s blunder.

“When it comes to Brandon I think, things like these do happened in football. If you were to count how many times he came out to save the team will nullify the mistakes he made that led to the goals.

“Anything that happens in a game of football it’s a team effort. If were to look back and try to trace where the mistake first it is not only about him in the goal but the whole team made a mistake and that’s how we conceded,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs will shift their focus to the MTN8 quarter-finals this coming Sunday as they will visit Cape Town City at the Athlone stadium, with kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 pm.
