A number of names have been linked to the Soweto giants, including Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy, Jose Peseiro, Rui Vitoria, Raul Caneda, Alexandre Santos and Nasreddine Nabi.

Portuguese coach Santos appeared as the frontrunner having recently left his post as head coach of Angola’s Petro Luanda.

He has been contacted by Chiefs but is yet to be offered a deal.

Santos told Soccerladuma: “They [Kaizer Chiefs] talked with me but we don’t have any deal.”

Nabi, though, who is in charge of Moroccan side AS FAR, has also emerged as a top candidate, having previously been approached by Chiefs prior to their appointment of Molefi Ntseki.

According to SABC Sport: “Nabi is instead head and shoulders above the rest of the candidates, with the previous stumbling block that prevented the Tunisian from joining Chiefs no longer in the way.

“Amakhosi are respectfully waiting for the Botola Pro League to conclude before finalising a deal that will see Nabi become their new head coach.”

Nabi was previously considered by Chiefs but they opted against his appointment after the coach insisted on bringing his own backroom staff with him.
