Chiefs, once known as the “Cup Kings” of South African football for their regular success, have now gone a decade without lifting a trophy, despite several coaching changes.

Dolly, 31, who spent four seasons with the Glamour Boys, emphasised that relying on the club’s rich history of producing top talents and winning trophies is no longer effective.

He believes management should not compare current development players to legends like Doctor Khumalo, Jabu Pule (now Jabu Mahlangu), and Itumeleng Khune to name a few.

Instead, they should foster a new culture that revolves around the development of the current squad.

The former Bafana Bafana player shared his thoughts during an interview with Hollywoodbets brand ambassador Robert Marawa on 947, highlighting the need to move forward and avoid placing pressure on senior team players and youngsters to match the success of stars of the past.

“I just feel like they (Kaizer Chiefs) shouldn’t focus on the past and what happened in the past. They should focus on building a new culture with the current players they have, the current technical team they have, the academy players that will get promoted eventually,” Dolly explained.

“Build a new culture around that and not focus on what Jabu Pule did back in the day and try to recreate that. Players are different, and characters are different. So, if they focus on the current group of players and the technical team that they have.

“Give them a fair chance to build something I think that can work, and not expect results over one season.

“And then put pressure on the coach and put pressure on the players, give them a chance to work together for a season or two.

“I have seen it with teams like Arsenal when Mikel Arteta joined. His first season wasn’t great but look at them now they almost won the league last season.

“But it’s a process just allow everyone to go through the process and enjoy it.”

The player is currently in search of a new team after parting ways with Amakhosi as a free agent in June 2024.
