In a sombre acknowledgment of their performance, Kaizer Chiefs’ coach Molefi Ntseki conceded that his team had fallen short in their 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs, enduring their second defeat in three league matches, found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreline after Brandon Petersen’s unfortunate own goal gifted the Rockets the coveted three points.

Ntseki candidly pointed out that his side’s physical prowess was lacking, resulting in their subservience to Galaxy throughout the match.

“Disappointment runs deep following this loss. There are two factors I can attribute to it. Our performance lacked the razor-sharp edge we should have possessed. We seemed to be lagging behind in nearly every aspect,” Ntseki conveyed to SuperSport TV.

“Be it our attacking prowess that lacked an assertive presence within the box, or our failure to assert aggressive counter-pressing after losing possession, it’s apparent that our physical condition wasn’t at its peak.

“Yet, improvement is always within our reach, especially with a full week ahead for the players to recuperate. Analysing the game’s intensity, it’s evident they outmatched us in sharpness, resulting in us being secondary in all aspects.

Ntseki’s insight extended to Chiefs’ performance in the season so far, which has only yielded one point from three matches.

“Our journey so far has been a roller coaster, marked by highs and lows. The first game, paired with the following league match, exposed our initial lack of sharpness in the first half,” he added.

“Contrastingly, our previous game showcased the precision of our plan and execution. Regrettably, in today’s match, our start was shaky, lacking the ball control we aspire for.

“However, within 15 minutes, we reclaimed possession, initiating a possession-focused game and forging combinations. Regret looms as the few opportunities in the first half couldn’t be converted.”

AmaKhosi’s next league endeavour will unfold on August 26 at FNB Stadium, as they lock horns with AmaZulu FC.
