Amakhosi started their league campaign under new head coach Molefi Ntseki with a disappointing goalless draw at home to Chippa United.

They were then seconds away from a credible draw with Mamelodi Sundowns before conceding a late goal to lose 2-1, but came out on top in their MTN8 quarter-final clash, with a much stronger performance against Cape Town City, winning 2-1.

The Rockets, meanwhile, kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over newly-promoted Cape Town Spurs and a 0-0 draw with Chippa United, and look a difficult team to break down, having yet to concede a goal.

Galaxy are in their second season under Sead Ramovic, and the head coach made wholesale changes to his team in the off-season.

Given Msimango is one player to have left, making the move to Amakhosi, and is expected to face his former team at the Mbombela Stadium.

In the past eight meetings between the two sides, Chiefs have, however, won just once, alongside five draws and two defeats.

But ahead of the game, Amakhosi midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane said past results count for nothing.

He explained in the Sowetan: “What happened previously, we have to let it go. What’s important is now.

“Galaxy are a different team now compared to last season and we are also a different team, so I really don’t think history will play any role in Sunday’s game.”

Mdantsane added: “The confidence of the team is high. That win over City helped us a lot as far as boosting our morale is concerned. The spirit among the squad is amazing… everyone wants to win and fight for everything that’s on offer.”
