Despite a few promising opportunities in the first half against Chippa, Kaizer Chiefs struggled to breach Eastern Cape sides’ defence during the latter period of the match, even though they maintained possession dominance. Consequently, Ntseki’s debut game at the helm resulted in a shared point each.

While acknowledging the squad’s clean-sheet performance, Ntseki emphasised the importance of enhancing their tactical prowess, specifically in the context of dismantling stubborn opposition defences.

Reflecting on the match with SuperSport TV, Ntseki shared, “It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t find the back of the net, but considering various moments of the game, especially being the inaugural match, I believe we put up a solid display. We did struggle at times with unnecessary turnovers that could have cost us dearly.”

He elaborated, “Without conceding a goal, the lads showcased their commitment and determination. Their dedication cannot be questioned, yet there is room for tactical improvement.”

Ntseki underscored half-time discussions aimed at elevating the team’s attacking strategy. “We stressed the significance of testing the goalkeeper through direct shots on goal. Breaking down a deep defensive setup requires a different approach than short passes. We need to augment our attacking numbers and optimize the quality of crosses into the box. This is an aspect we will certainly be refining in training,” he commented.

Drawing attention to new recruit Edson Castillo’s performance, Ntseki praised the midfielder’s tactical acumen and versatility. Ntseki stated, “Since his arrival, Castillo has showcased an impressive level of tactical awareness and game management. We are currently exploring potential partnerships for him within the midfield. Collaborations with players such as (Samkelo) Zwane, (Yusuf) Maart, and (Siyethemba) Sithebe are being developed, and we anticipate a positive impact from Castillo’s contributions to the club.”

Chiefs are set to return to action on 9 August, where they will face off against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium at 15h00.
