The Sea Robbers have now lost their last DStv Premiership games against SuperSport United (3-1) and Stellenbosch (3-2) having led in both. Things do look a bit better on the injury front, however.

Chaine, who had confidently assumed the number one goalkeeper role before his setback in the Carling Knockout Cup, is renowned for his strategic orchestration of attacks and impeccable communication skills with the defence. The 27-year-old, praised by coach Jose Riveiro, boasts an impressive record of 12 clean sheets and 23 goals conceded in 33 appearances since his surprise transfer from Chippa United.

Despite this, the goalkeeper now faces stiff competition for his spot, with Ghana captain Richard Ofori and South Africa international Melusi Buthlezi making strong cases for inclusion in the starting XI.

The club’s official website announced the positive development, stating, “Sipho Chaine and forward Azola Matrose are among those back in training after lengthy spells on the sidelines.”

Matrose, the 20-year-old winger, is yet to make his debut for Orlando Pirates after arriving with an ankle injury from Chippa.

As the DStv Premiership takes a hiatus until mid-February due to the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, starting from January 13 and concluding on February 11, 2024, Orlando Pirates fans eagerly await the return of Chaine and Matrose, hopeful that their comeback will add a new dimension to the team’s performance in the upcoming fixtures.
