As we gear up for the DSTV Premier League action this weekend, Orlando Pirates will be without their star player Thembinkosi Lorch after news broke that he has been removed from all club activities.

The legal proceedings involving the player have been going on for quite some time now. However, according to Orlando Pirates’ statement on their website, the proceedings have been concluded.

Lorch was fined R100 000 and received a three-year suspended prison sentence after he was found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to his former girlfriend, Fundiswa Mathithibela

In September 2023, the sentencing was suspended owing to personal issues as confirmed by State Prosecutor Michele Hart.

Even though the club is busy doing their internal process, they are always mindful of its obligation.

Lorch has been involved in all of the games Pirates have played including the Soweto derby just before the international break in which Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0.

So, the powers that be at Orlando Pirates have made the decision to remove the player from all club activities until 12 December 2023.

Since recovering from injury, Lorch has been a key figure for coach Jose Riveiro across all competitions.

Lorch will have to stay focused to help the Sea Robbers get back their consistency in the Premier Soccer League and successfully defend their Nedbank Cup after his suspension.
