SuperSport United

Gavin Hunt’s men are preparing to host this new-look Chiefs side with aims to bounce back to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw with Gaborone United in Botswana last weekend.

Hunt, facing his former employers, will be the happier of the coaches with his squad and preparations; in goals he can certainly rely on the safe hands of Bafana goalie Ricardo Goss who has kept three clean sheets from five league matches.

But before that, Matsatsantsa were humbled at home by Durban side Golden Arrows, who put three unanswered goals past Goss to see them move up to second on the table. They will surely look to avoid another setback here with their crosstown rivals Mamelodi Sundowns now running away with the lead at the summit.

Their last victory over the Glamour Boys was sealed by Zambian forward Gamphani Jones Lungu, who took advantage of a defensive error to lob the ball over Petersen and claim all three points at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs

The rebuild continues at Kaizer Chiefs, with player departures still being announced ahead of their clash with SuperSport United. They have also publicised a very strong interest in the highly sought-after Stellebosch FC midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

But for now, we look ahead to what should be a cracker of a game as the Glamour Boys look to secure a third win of the season after a rocky start under new coach Molefi Ntseki. Having failed to beat Royal AM in their last outing, Ntseki said that their performance was a reason to be hopeful ahead of the club’s two tough fixtures against United and Mamelodi Sundowns in the weekend.

But Chiefs are yet to fully convince me of their merit to challenge for the league and beyond as they haven’t really controlled a match from start to finish like we know they should. They’ve scored six goals in their last four games, but will need to be much sharper upfront if they plan on troubling strong defences like their next two opponents.

The last time they beat United was in the first round of last season where the departed Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana scored a brace to secure a 2-1 win for AmaKhosi inside the FNB Stadium.

Verdict: Kaizer Chiefs to win at 28/10

I expect both teams to come out aiming for a win here, with at least one coach feeling the pressure for positive results. Kiazer Chiefs will obviously dominate the stands, but can they dominate this vibrant Matsatsantsa squad?
