Orlando Pirates beats Arrows in Durban

Golden Arrows suffered only their second home defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night at the Princess Magogo stadium, KwaMashu.

Two first-half goals from Monnapule Saleng gave Orlando Pirates all the confidence in the world as they looked to challenge log leaders in the Dstv Premiership.

Pirates started the game with Mpontshane deputizing for Ofori in goals and Erasmus starting in place of Zakhele Lepasa up front. Arrows couldn’t handle the pace of the Buccaneers and their mistakes at the back and in midfield were evident thanks to five yellow cards shown to Arrows players compared to three on Pirates side.

The victory for the Bucaneers was their first since the 2-0 win at home against TS Galaxy on the 10th of September.

Richards Bay maintains form

Richards Bay grabbed maximum points against Cape Town City at home on Wednesday night at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

The Rich Boyz’ only goal came courtesy of an own-goal by defender Thato Mokeke in a bizzare circumstances. City had a rude awakening in the CAFCL after they were humbled 4-0 on aggregate by Angolans, Petro de Luanda.

This was their opportunity to move off the bottom half of the log but it was not meant to be for Eric Tinkler’s men. The new kids on the block are sitting pretty at the top, joint first with Sundowns on 22 points, but second on goal difference.

Usuthu and Maritzburg United struggling to get a win

It has now gone seven games without a victory for AmaZulu who are coached by a man looking for his first Dstv Premiership win since he arrived in South Africa.

Usuthu opened the scoring through striker Gaba Mhango whom had just returned from suspension. Maritzburg United poor defending led to Siphesihle Maduna dribbling through five players before finding Mhango unmarked in the far post to slot it home.

Maritzburg came back strong in the second half and were duly rewarded when striker Friday Samu equalized. Samu’s goal was Maritzburg’s first of the season away from home, and only their third point on the road, still without a win.

The Team of Choice had found it hard to score goals but coach John Maduka will be motivated that they have now opened the account and will feel disappointed that they failed to capitalize on Usuthu despite being one man shot after midfield Repo Malepe received a strigh red card in the 56th minute.

AmaZulu looked to steal the points in the dying moments but Rama Mphahlele’s effort hit the woodword and Maritzburg defense cleared the lines.

Maritzburg will look to this result more as a point gained rather than two points dropped as it allowed them to move further away from the relegation zone.

Royal AM suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Swallows FC in Dobsonville Stadium, Soweto.

Swallows who started the game bottom of the log were looking forward to moving away from the foot of the table, taking advantage of AM’s taxing traveling in the CAFCC and caretaker coach Nyatama had all the motivation in place.

The defeat was AM’s 5th of the season, pushing them to 10th on the log after 10 games. AM will hope their fortunes change for the better as they have a CAFCC last qualification round coming which may continue their long traveling journey around the continent.

The win in Dobsonville moved Swallows to 12th on the log, a point away from Royal AM in 10th.

Sundowns win 4 on the bounce

Sundowns’ 1-0 win at Loftus will be surrounded by controversy after what seemed like a Marumo Gallants equalizer was flagged offside.

Replays showed that indeed the goal was offside but coach Dan Malesela of Gallants looked less convinced by the official’s decision.

Sundowns’ win moved them to top of the log with 22 points after 10 games. It was a game with less opportunities for both sides, as more balls were played in midfield, backwards, and sideways.

Sundowns’ win was their 4th in a row, a record they share with Morgan Mammila’s Chippa United. The pressure is on the chasing pack to stop Sundowns’ dominance in league competition

Chippa defeated Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the Chatsworth stadium to continue Morgan Mamilla, CEO/Technical Director-cum-head coach’s fairytale start at the helm.

Chiefs drew 2-2 against TS Galaxy thanks to late Keegan Dolly free kick. Chiefs had opened the scoring through Ashley Du Preez inside first 10 minutes before former Chiefs captain Bernard Parker equalized. Galaxy quickly took a lead through Traore the new signing, but it was Dolly who broke coach Sead Ramovic’s heart, in the end, to stretch Galaxy’s winless streak to 8 games.

SuperSport continued their fine form thanks to their 2-0 win in Stellenbosch, a win that moved them to 3rd on the log.
