Zambia defeated Namibia 1-0 after extra time to clinch their 6th title of the COSAFA Cup at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

It was Albert Kangwanda’s goal which broke the hearts of Namibians in the second half of extra-time. Zambia had dominated the se ond half of the 90 but couldn’t break the gallant defense of the Warriors.

The two sides needed extra-time to separate them as none of the two wanted to lose. Zambia launched several attacks to break the Namibians until that moment which allowed them the goal.

The Zambians came into this tournament with a depleted squad as some of the players were still in fringes from club football perspective.

Namibia had their own issues, only 5 players in the COSAFA squad were playing competitively in Botswana Premier League, the rest are not active as there has been no professional football in the desert country for two years now.

Guests, Senegal, claimed third spot having defeated Mozambique 4-2 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1. In an earlier fixture, hosts South Africa defeated Botswana 2-1 to claim plate final and finish the tournament 5th.

Banyana Banyana in AWCON Semi's

Banyana Banyana defeated North Africans Tunisia 1-0 to advance to the semi-final of the AWCON held in Morocco.

Jermaine Seoposenwe formerly with Braga SC in Portugal scored the solitary goal in the first half.

For Banyana, it was the missed chances that stole the headlines than the overall play of the team.

Diminutive midfield Noxolo Cesane was the crowd favorite as she dazzled with the ball with the fans cheering her every move but it was the finishing that let her actions down.

Coach Desiree Ellis lamented the missed opportunities but hoped players would learn from this experience and do better when her SA team meet neighbors, Zambia, in the semi-final on Monday evening.
