Richards Bay 1-3 Cape Town City

Cape Town City defeated Richards Bay 3-1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jaedin Rhodes put the Citizens ahead with his first goal on the 31 minute mark before scoring again just seven minutes later.

Khanyisa Mayo added a third in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half as Sanele Barns netted a 52nd minute consolation goal for the hosts.

Both sides started positively but it was City who were first in with a chance that Darwin Gonzalez put just over the target on 12 minutes before Taahir Goedeman saw his goal-bound shot blocked on the 30 minute mark.

But the visitors were soon ahead through Rhodes, who put his close-range header into the top corner of the Natal Rich Boyz net.

Yamela Mbuthuma was off target as the home side looked to fight back, but they soon found themselves two goals down as Rhodes fired in his second shortly before the half-time break.

But there was still time for Khanyisa Mayo to get in on the action as he slotted home from close range in first-half stoppage time.

Richards Bay made a triple substitution at the start of the second period and were quickly in the ascendancy with both substitute Letsie Koapeng and Tshepo Mabua testing their opponents before Sanele Barns fired home a 51st minute set-piece.

Thulani Gumede came close with his 57th minute effort and again on 63 minutes but without any reward.

The home side were dominant throughout the remainder of the second period but failed to find a way through the City defence and goalkeeper Darren Keet.

TS Galaxy 2-0 Sekhukhune United

TS Galaxy secured an important three points with a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United.

Kamogelo Sabelebele opened the scoring at the Mbombela Stadium on 13 minutes and Samir Nurkovic made sure of the points with his goal 10 minutes from time.

Sekhukhune had started well with Maloisane Mokhele firing in a shot from outside the box that flew just wide of the right-hand upright.

But it was Galaxy who opened the scoring early on as Kamogelo Sebelebele picked up a pass from Higor Vidal before slotting home.

The away side responded with Elias Mokwana trying his luck from range but the home team came close to extending their lead with both Mlungisi Mbunjana and MacBeth Mahlangu threatening the Sekhukhune goal.

Both sides continued to create chances in the first half but Higor Vidal’s 28th minute shot was saved for Galaxy while Lehlohonolo Mtshali and Chibuike Ohizu were narrowly wide with their efforts at the other end of the pitch.

The first half ended with Jamie Webber failing to keep his 45th minute free-kick on target, while chances were few and far between after the break until Daniel Cardoso powered a 66th minute shot wide of the left post.

Tashreeq Morris should have done better with his header on 70 minutes, and the game was over as a contest when Nirkovic found the bottom corner of the net for his first Galaxy goal.
