Thamsanqa Gabuza of SuperSport United

Two women looking excitedly at cellphone

What a strange start Romain Folz has made at AmaZulu. The Usuthu manager has drawn all four of his games at the KZN club, which included appointments with Pirates and Chiefs. The club currently occupies a top-half spot. During that period, the Frenchman has guided Usuthu into the MTN8 final and could deliver silverware to the KZN outfit next weekend – a drought that spans 20 years.

This weekend sees a blockbuster tie when Orlando Pirates host Kaizer Chiefs in the first instalment of the Soweto Derby. Amakhosi have netted just six times across their previous six away league outings – but only half of those were from open play.

The Buccaneers come into this one on the back of a 3-0 demolition of Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Riviero’s charges registered just three shots on target in that one but executed with absolute precision – with Monnapule Saleng (G2 A1) being involved in all three.

Khune to return for the Derby?

Kaizer Chiefs have conceded 15 goals this term – only three DStv Premiership clubs have conceded more. The Glamour Boys have fielded three shot-stoppers this season, and it could be Itu Khune who we see this weekend. The 35-year-old did not play a league game for Chiefs last season, but has made several league appearances for the club this season and could get the nod for the biggest game of the season.

Domingo could kick on after brace against Maritzburg

Haashim Domingo has opened his account for the season. The Sundowns man netted a brace in the Brazilians’ previous encounter against Maritzburg United. Across his previous three league appearances, Domingo has attempted eight shots and created one chance. Competition for starting berths at Sundowns has never been tougher, but Domingo certainly looks to get the nod ahead of their trip to KZN to take on Royal AM.

Maarman turning up the heat for the Chilli Boys

Chippa United’s sensational winning streak was ended after their defeat at the hands of Cape Town City. The Chilli Boys had won four league outings on the spin before that which saw them jump from the foot of the table to sixth place. Ronaldo Maarman has returned two goals from his five shots across his previous three league outings. During that spell, the dangerman hit the woodwork from a free kick.

Ganda-Ganda to fill his boots before World Cup?

Thamsanqa Gabuza will be itching to add to his season tally before the league pauses for the World Cup. Across his previous three league outings, the SuperSport United attacker has delivered two goals from a total of six shots. Furthermore, he created three chances and was fouled six times in that period, so keep an eye out for him when SuperSport host Swallows.

Mngomezulu takes aim at Usuthu

Sinethemba Mngomezulu could throw a spanner in the works at Moses Mabhida this weekend. The Stellies hitman has attempted nine shots across his previous three league outings, finding the back of the net on one occasion. Amazulu will undoubtedly have an eye on their MTN8 final, and Mngomezulu could be on hand to swoop on any lapses in concentration.
