Desh Parthab has a look at some stats that could help inform your betting picks for this weekend's upcoming DStv Premiership matches!
Points were shared for the most part following the conclusion of last week’s round of fixtures. Of the 12 topflight clubs in action, only 2 picked up wins. The Buccaneers missed the chance to make it 3 league wins in 3 (following their 4-1 humbling by Sundowns last year) as there was nothing to split them and a Golden Arrows side who are churning out impressive results on the road.
There was a DStv Premiership debut for Cape Town City’s Mogamat May who tormented the Chiefs backline and gave Austin Dube a run for his money! With many teams dropping points, here are some stats to consider ahead of this round of fixtures.
Ruthless Letsoalo
Sepana Letsoalo has bagged 4 goals in his previous 5 league appearances. The Royal AM attacker has 10 league goals to his name and is and is chasing down Namibian sensation peter Shalulile who has netted 13 times for Sundowns this season. If the KZN side are to grab a Champions League spot come the end of the season, Letsoalo will need to continue consistently finding the back of the net.

Victor Letsoalo doubles his tally with a well-taken freekick. He’s got 20 minutes to complete a hat-trick. Can he do it?

Improving Chippa
Chippa United have conceded 15 league goals on the road this season – only TS Galaxy (17) have conceded more on their travels. Since the axing of Gavin Hunt, there has been a palpable change in form, starting in the nets. Goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali has played just 8 league fixtures but has kept an impressive five clean sheets. Kurt Lentjies has fielded the shot-stopper in five of his eight league matches in charge of the Gqeberha, where Mtshali has contributed three shut-outs.

Pressure on Mdantsane
Following the departures of Fagrie Lakay (Pyramids FC) and Surprise Ralani (Sundowns), the weight of expectation will be weighing down on the shoulders of Mduduzi Mdantsane whose continued goal-scoring form will be required to if Cape Town City want to finish in the top 8. They have just one win in their previous five league fixtures. This comes in between their Nedbank Cup exit wherein they let a lead slip to go down 2-1 against Royal AM. The Cape Town club go in search of only their second away league win this season and you have to wonder if they have the necessary quality upfront to pull it off.

Gamildien finding form?
Ruzaigh Gamildien will look to build on his impressive showing against TS Sporting in the Nedbank Cup last weekend. The Swallows forward found the back of the net and provided an assist as Swallows claimed a 2-1 win. His league form hasn’t been the best, however. He’s only bagged two goals this term following a return of 11 last season for the Dube Birds. He’ll hope to use last weekend’s showing as a springboard for the remainder of the campaign. It’s also worth noting that he was pretty damn good int he DStv Compact Cup toward the end of January, bagging a brace in the final. Perhaps there are big things on the horizon indeed.

Mulenga Magic
Amazulu are scheduled to play their first league fixture of 2022 in the coming days, with Augustine Mulenga looking to take full advantage. The forward has got a goal and registered an assist in his previous 5 appearances (across all appearances) and comes up against a TS Galaxy side that are yet to register their first away league win, following eight unsuccessful attempts. Mulenga has three league goals and an assist this season and will be keen to add to that tally this weekend.
