The Brazilians are fighting on a number of fronts this term.

On top of their DStv Premiership commitments, Sundowns started the campaign in the MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup, as well as the CAF Champions League and newly-launched African Football League.

They have since been eliminated from the MTN8 and most recently from the Carling Knockout Cup, 5-4 on penalties to TS Galaxy on Wednesday.

They are next in action on Saturday in Angola against Petro de Luanda in an AFL quarter-final first leg clash, before taking on Swallows at Loftus Versfeld next Sunday.

Komphela said in the Sowetan: “I feel very sorry [for them], the schedule is going to be crazy.

“At the back of that schedule, you have to travel. And you know how difficult it is to be travelling on the continent.

“Then it goes to the depth of the squad. Yes, there is indeed depth in the squad, but there is also chemistry because as soon as you change one or two players, it does reflect in the team’s performance and dynamics.

“One big thing we thought of is fatigue, not only physical fatigue but mentally as well. How many matches are they going to play.

“If the schedule is too heavy, they will feel the pinch.”
