The Brazilians showcased their depth and resilience as they overcame adversity, with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams returning to the line-up after a brief illness setback, complemented by the captain, Themba Zwane.

The absence of key players like Neo Maema, Thapelo Morena, Thapelo Maseko, and Abdelmounaim Boutouil due to injuries did little to deter their determination.

The match ignited with a bang as Sundowns were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute for a handball infringement, promptly seized upon by Lucas Ribeiro, who coolly slotted home his inaugural goal in the competition. The momentum only intensified as Ribeiro netted his second of the day in the 37th minute, establishing a dominant 2-0 lead.

Sundowns didn’t relent, and in the 41st minute, Lesiba Nku etched his name onto the scoresheet, completing a scintillating first-half performance.

Coach Rulani Mokwena’s strategic acumen came to the fore as he introduced Lebohang Maboe, Khuliso Mudau, Bongani Zungu, and Peter Shalulile into the fray during the second half.

Shalulile needed a mere ten minutes to leave his mark, securing his spot on the scoresheet and sealing the resounding 4-0 victory.

Sundowns now turn their focus to the DStv Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates at the iconic Orlando Stadium next Wednesday.

In the wake of their commanding performance, anticipation surges as the Brazilians continue their quest for glory in Africa’s most prestigious club competition.
