Last weekend’s Champions League clashes would have certainly given the clubs in action this week something to think about.

Manchester City ran riot and threw down the gauntlet to the rest of the European elite. Real Madrid failed to register a single shot on target against PSG, demonstrating that the Parisians aren’t to be trifled with.

That begs the question, who will signal their intent this time of asking?

Fortress Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are yet to concede at home in this season’s UCL. The club has conceded 6
Champions League goals across their previous 12 European fixtures, with 3 of those
coming last time out. Since their German mentor Thomas Tuchel, has been at the
helm, Chelsea have conceded more than 1 Champions League goal on just 1
occasion.

Benfica’s back four blues

Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea and Real Madrid emerged from their group stage
encounters with 4 clean sheets a piece, however, its Benfica (9) that have conceded
the most out of those clubs. The Portuguese giants have a thorn in their side to say
the least – all 9 goals have come from the same opponent (Bayern Munich).

Griezmann carrying faltering Atletico

Griezmann (G4 A1) has been involved in 5 of his clubs 7 Champions League goals –
that’s more than 70% of Atleti’s goals in the competition. The reigning Spanish champions stumbled out of their group. Elsewhere, they have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey in the round of 16, lost in the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana and come into this one outside of the top 4 in LaLiga. Their current Champions League campaign is following suit and it has been a dismal showing thus far. Whilst Atletico did progress from their group, prior to kick off to their final group game, the club sat dead last in their respective group.

A Lille bit of a discipline issue

Lille enter the round of 16 having picked up 29 yellow cards across their 6 tournament appearances thus far – that’s at least 10 more than any of the remaining clubs accumulated during their group stage fixtures. In a surprising turn of events, none of their players saw a straight sending off. The current French champions have won 3 consecutive UCL fixtures ahead of their tie and will be looking to make it 4 on the trot.

Seb’s a Hall-of-er player

Sebastien Haller has been directly involved in 12 Champions League goals (G10 A2) for Ajax this season. The former West Ham United F.C. forward was the only player to have reached double digits on the scoring charts ahead of the Round of 16. Furthermore, he has missed 5 big chances alluding to the service he’s been getting.
Only Edin Dzeko (6) and Paulinho (6) have missed more big chances than the Ajax
hitman
