The art of kasi flava continues to be the source of debate and controversy in local football. A video circulated recently of the Alexandra Football Stars U11 team showboating against a hapless and demoralised opponent has either thrilled or angered those who have an opinion on this aspect of the Beautiful Game.

Late last year, former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana striker Jerry Sikhosana famously gave his thoughts on such play, criticising it bluntly.

Sikhona said as per Sports Brief South Africa:

“The seriousness of themselves leading a team and leading these young boys. If you stand there and allow what these boys are doing… earlier on today I came to watch Isithembiso playing against another team… I think they were leading by an aggregate of 6-1.

“We can have jokes, but what was happening in the morning is something I cannot tolerate. I think it comes down to the coaches leading those teams and that’s what does not sit well with me.

“So let’s respect the game, and make sure that anybody who is seated out there with the opportunity to be broadcast live, is being watched and looked at. If they see what they see here, then they’ll tell you ‘we don’t want to waste our time’.”
