Jose Riveiro has lauded Orlando Pirates for their appointment of Helmy Gueldich as the DStv Premiership club’s new strength and conditioning coach.
Gueldich joined the Buccaneers from Tanzanian giants Young Africans with a formidable reputation.
He replaces Stephen Plummer, who left to rejoin the Blue Bulls, having been at the DStv Premiership side since 2015.
Yanga have been dominant in the Tanzanian Premier League over the past few seasons, winning back-to-back domestic trebles, while they are also runners up in the CAF Confederations Cup last term.
On their appointment of Gueldich, Bucs wrote: “Gueldich brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise having recently worked as the Strength and Conditioning coach for Tanzanian League Champions, Yanga FC.
“Notably, Gueldich is not only a seasoned professional but also a former player, holding a Ph.D. in Exercise Science. His wealth of knowledge and background will be a valuable asset to the team.
“This appointment couldn’t come at a more crucial time, as the Buccaneers are gearing up to compete in five challenging competitions this season. The demanding schedule makes it imperative that the players remain consistently available for selection.
“Helmi Gueldich will be collaborating closely with Michel Bellver, forming a dynamic partnership that is poised to elevate Jose Riveiro’s technical team to new heights.”

Riveiro added: “The club is looking for improvement in every area. In areas that you know and areas that you don’t know, so that’s normal [to bring in a new conditioning coach].
“We are part of a club that is looking to permanently develop. We all know the reason why we are there, it’s to help the players to become better, help the team be better and make sure the history of the club improves season after season.”
