The DStv Premiership takes a break this weekend as the MTN8 takes centre stage. Mamelodi Sundowns open up proceedings as red-hot favourites against Swallows.

Jose Riviero’s men take aim at Sekhukhune United in what is a repeat of the 2022/23 Nedbank Cup final. Indeed, his Pirates outfit bagged both domestic knockout competitions, lifting the MTN8 in November last year and the Nedbank cup in May earlier this year.

Fellow Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, have an appointment with Cape Town City where all eyes will be on Mdu Mdantsane, as he comes up against his former club. Fellow Western Cape outfit Stellenbosch, will do battle with Supersport in the final fixture.

Lucas Ribeiro - Sundowns

Lucas Ribeiro has fit in like a glove at Sundowns. The Brazilian dangerman has netted twice across his two league appearances this season, as the reigning PSL champions occupy top spot on the log. He comes up against a Swallows outfit who have conceded in both their league appointments – a trend that could stay with the Dube Birds throughout the season.

Zakhele Lepasa - Orlando Pirates

Zakhele Lepasa is on fire. The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana striker bagged a first-half brace as the Buccaneers put four past Royal AM during the week. A feat made even more impressive when you consider he managed just three top-flight goals across his 19 league appearances last season.

Terrence Dzvukamanja - SuperSport United

Terrence Dzvukamanja is playing like he has a point to prove. The Zimbabwean forward swapped his Pirates jersey for a Supersport United one, where he has already opened his account. The forward lifted the MTN8 last season and will undoubtedly use that experience as Gavin Hunt looks to deliver silverware to the Matsantsantsa faithful.

Iqram Rayners - Stellenbosch

Iqram Rayners is no stranger to knockout football. The striker was the joint top scorer at last year’s Nedbank Cup with six goals to his name. The dangerman is up against his former club, SuperSport United, in this quarter-final clash and will be looking to get one over his previous employers.

Ranga Chivaviro - Kaizer Chiefs

Ranga Chivaviro is set to lead the line for Kaizer Chiefs against Cape Town City this weekend. The centre forward will be looking to open his account this time out as The Glamor Boys look to end their trophy drought, spanning several years. In the 2022/23 season, Chivaviro’s 10 league goals was enough to convince the hierarchy at the Naturena to swoop in for his services. Only time will tell if that was the correct move…
