Group A is currently wide with all four teams on four points after three matches, with Masandawana knowing a victory could be crucial if they are to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Sundowns and Pyramids played to a goalless draw last week in Pretoria and they will expect a tough encounter in the return fixture in Egypt.

The South African champions started the continental campaign with a 3-0 home win over Mauritanian outfit Nouadhibou FC before going down 1-0 to TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says he is eager to wrap up qualification for the last-eight stage before their final fixture in the group at home against Mazembe.

He said: “It’s very important [to win against Pyramids], but we know we have three games to go and in the three games we’ve got enough to make sure we get a [positive] result.

“We’ve got two away matches. The first is this one in Cairo against the Pyramids and then we go to Mauritania, which will be very difficult because it is on an artificial pitch and the conditions are extremely difficult with the weather there.

“Hopefully by then, we will know what we need to do against Mazembe to make sure we not only qualify from the group but also finish first.”
