Fresh off his Carling Cup All-Stars heroics, where he captivated the audience with a cheeky free-kick, the 18-year-old Vilakazi’s aspirations for the New Year are crystal clear – a debut for AmaKhosi’s first team before the season’s final whistle.

Vilakazi’s All-Stars performance earned him a spot in the prestigious XI, showcasing his prowess alongside seasoned stars like Itumeleng Khune and under the watchful eye of Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro. The young talent’s ambition is set on making his senior team debut, a sentiment he shared with SABC Sport, expressing gratitude for the recognition of his talent.

“I’m happy to have made the people proud. It’s something I’ve been doing in the MDC (MultiChoice Diski Challenge now DStv Diski Challenge) also, and I’m happy people recognize my talent,” Vilakazi stated in an SABC interview, emphasizing his consistency and growth in the youth setup.

The All-Star stage provided a grand platform for Vilakazi to shine, not only among his peers but also under the discerning gaze of rival mentor Jose Riveiro. Riveiro’s advice acted as a coach’s benediction, allowing Vilakazi to express himself freely on the field. The early goal in the All-Stars match showcased his skill and composure, leaving a lasting impression.

“He just told me not to be scared, but be myself, get the ball and do my thing. I mustn’t be scared to play my normal game, but must play like it’s the MDC,” revealed Vilakazi, reflecting on the invaluable guidance from Riveiro.

As Chiefs temporarily hibernate due to the Africa Cup of Nations, Vilakazi patiently awaits his moment, eyes fixed on February when TS Galaxy arrives at Naturena. For him, this is not merely another game but a potential gateway to fulfilling his debut dream with the AmaKhosi.
