Despite numerous chances, the Soweto giants failed to find the back of the net throughout the match, leading to their eventual defeat at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

The game, which ended goalless after extra time, saw Kaizer Chiefs squander several opportunities, including a missed penalty by striker Ranga Chivaviro.

Even with a numerical advantage after Milford were reduced to ten men, Chiefs failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage.

“Not a good day at the office for Kaizer Chiefs,” Johnson said post-match.

“I thought we had about 89% possession of the game and played against a team that sat back the entire game. From the first whistle, I also thought we had definitely four clear chances besides the other 15 that could have gone in. We also then go on to miss a penalty.

“So, if you think about the game, and about the chances in the first 15 minutes and then we are awarded a penalty in extra time where we don’t score.”

The defeat is the third occasion out of the last four appearances that Amakhosi have been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup at the first hurdle.

“There were so many moments where we failed to score and dominate the opponent correctly, and we lose the game on penalties,” Johnson added.

“Like they always say, you try and play until the fat lady sings, and today she sang for the opposition.”

Chiefs next host Moroka Swallows in a Soweto derby in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:45.
