Race 4

There are six unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, TAIPAN LEGEND may well prove to be the best. He finished sixth last time out over 1500M, just under seven and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding sat just behind the leaders that day, but did not quite go on with his effort and seems likely to appreciate the drop in trip. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. He does face a wide draw eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

WICKED TESTIMONY is the stable companion of the top choice and finished fifth in his latest outing over 1200M, just over two lengths back from the winner. He gets a set of blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, notwithstanding a wide draw nine. He makes a solid backup for the yard.

BEAUTY EDGE makes his debut, but has had five barrier trials, finishing fourth in the last two. He gets gate six and could make a winning start to his career.

Race 5

WILLINGALE is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished third in her last two outings, the latest over 900M, just under two and a half lengths off the winner, when returning from a 22-week break. She raced four wide without cover that day and had to be eased at the 700M mark and although drawn wide in gate eleven, with better luck in running, she looks to be the one to side with here.

PARMENIO followed up his penultimate run victory over 1000M with a ninth-place finish next time out over 1100M, 4.7L back from the winner and was immediately moved to another yard. He returns here from a 21-week but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the latest. From draw seven, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

ARAFURA SEA is a 4-year-old filly who is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 950M, one length back from the winner, despite being slow away and overracing throughout. The filly will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, SMART SHOT has posted two solid last runs, finishing second in the latest over 1200M, just a head off the victor, this after returning from a lengthy 52-week spell. He made good late progress that day and will have blinkers re-fitted for the day’s run and from his handy draw four, he will be looking to chalk up his second career win.

SENSHI finished second in his penultimate start over 1250M and then did not act in the heavy going when finishing fifth last time out over 1250M, three and a half lengths behind the winner, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding has drawn seven and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

TURNAWAY has consistent formlines to his name and hit the line hard when ending up in third spot last time out over 1300M, just a neck behind the winner. He is another who gets blinkers re-fitted and from is kinder draw two, he should turn in another honest performance here.

Race 7

Two 3-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet JOISELLE is taken to lead the field home. She is two for two, both at this track, the first over 1000M and the latest over 1200M, albeit by just a head. She overraced in front in the early and middle stages in that contest, but battled courageously to record her double. She returns from a 15-week rest, but did win her only barrier trial and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.

RESTRICTIONS on the other hand has cracked pole position and won over 1000M three runs back, finished tenth in his penultimate start over 1100M and then second in his latest outing back over 1000M, 0.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 55-week spell. She had to be eased off the heels of another runner at the 200M pole in that event, so she had her excuses. The filly will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and is sure to put her pole position to good use.

AQUARTER has won two of his last three outings, the latest over 1000M by one length, when returning from a 20-week rest. The gelding hit the front at the 200M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He has pulled a cosy draw two and will have the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.
