Sundowns announced earlier this month that they have amicably parted ways with Mokwena, a decision that shocked many.

Mosimane, who had promoted the 37-year-old to his assistant coach at the Brazilians in 2014, couldn’t hide his emotions when discussing Mokwena’s exit after just one season of his four-year contract with Masandawana.

“Now, the sad part is let go at Sundowns. I’m not happy, you can feel my emotion,” Mosimane said.

“I’m not pretending, I just feel bad for him. Sundowns is a big club, Sundowns will sort themselves out. Sundowns is not about Pitso, Sundowns is not about Rulani.

“Coaches come and go; I get emotional with this thing of Rulani. Why, because I know Rulani well.

“You have been there on my journey with Rulani, I was so humbled and appreciated that. The little bit of contribution that I put when I came to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I brought over coach Manqoba, I brought over coach Rulani, that they must help me in the process of building and making a better team that can compete in the continent that was the vision.

“And I think we can all say that we have achieved that vision, and we need to give credit to the people who contributed. I didn’t do it alone, I had them on my side as my generals, my assistants to help me and they’ve helped me.”

The former Al Ahly coach won the CAF Champions League in 2016 with Downs alongside Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena as his assistant coaches where they defeated Zamalek of Egypt.

Reports now suggest that Mokwena might be on his way to Wydad Casablanca, as the Moroccan giants aim to rejuvenate their team following a disappointing sixth-place finish in the Botola Pro 1 last season.
