Race 5

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Of the raced runners, GREAT SOUTHERNLAND may well prove to be the best. He had to be held up at the top of the home straight, but ran on well to finish seventh last time out over 1300M, 3.3L behind the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He has his first run for his new trainer and gets the blinkers removed. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, notwithstanding a wide draw eleven.

HE’S ALL STYLE was returning from a 23-week break and tried to go from jump to wire when finishing up in seventh place last time out over 1000M, 11.7L adrift of the victor, but he also gets the blinkers removed and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, jumping from his handy draw four.

STIORRA is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she finished fifth in her latest outing over 1000M, and the form of that race has been franked. She faces a wide draw fourteen, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 6

WHO EVER THOUGHT raced just behind the leaders and then hit the front at the 100M mark before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win his last start over 1300M, albeit by just a short-head. The gelding has a wideish gate eight, but will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

CLIMATE CONTROL has cracked pole position and is the stable companion of the top choice. He made good late progress when finishing fourth last time out over 1200M, just over three lengths back from the winner. The gelding looks to be the immediate danger top the top pick and makes a solid backup for the yard.

ISHAMASHI is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1100M and then finishing third next time out over the same sprint trip, just under four lengths off the winner. She was returning from a 19-week rest on that occasion and chased hard to the wire. Whilst drawn wide in gate thirteen, she should be doing her best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 7

ROTHGATE won over 1300M three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over 1200M and then eighth in his latest outing when stepping up to 1600M, 10.8L behind the winner and was immediately rested for 26 weeks. He returns here without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he jumps from draw six and drops to what appears to be a more suitable distance.

GIVING DELIGHT is seldom too far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, just under three lengths back from the winner, but he overraced four wide without cover in the early and middle stages that day and had to be held up at the 1200M mark, so he had his excuses. The gelding is drawn one inside the top choice and should be right up there when they hit the line.

FEIRME PRINCE was slow away, but chased hard when finishing seventh in his latest outing over 1300M, three and a half lengths behind the winner. He will have to deal with a wide draw twelve, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, DREAMBENDER followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a seventh place finish next time out over 1200M, 7.3L back from the winner, but he was slow away that day, before finishing off his race strongly from too far back. The form of that race has however been franked and from gate five, he is sure to appreciate the extra ground on offer here.

SKYFORGER showed marked improvement when battling all the way down to the wire to end up in fourth place last time out over 1300M, 1.7L back from the winner. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but he should be doing his best work late.

SPORTS PAGE is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she goes for her hat-trick after two victories over 1300M, the latest by just under a half-length. She kicked clear of the opposition at the 100M pole to win going away and although drew the widest of them all in gate eighteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and should be included in all bets.
