Mofokeng was promoted to the senior team during the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, and initially played two games, contributing one goal and one assist.

Last season, the 19-year-old winger became a regular starter for coach Jose Riveiro, making 38 appearances, scoring five goals, and providing six assists across all competitions. Which saw him getting a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Hotto believes that the senior players at Pirates will focus on helping Mofokeng improve his final third touches this season, and is confident that with their support, the young talent can increase his goal tally.

“That’s where we as senior players come in to keep the boy grounded if he is having a game his head must be on the price,” Hotto said.

“We try to urge him to continue where he left off (last season). Just to put in more effort, especially in the final third.

“Sometimes there are times where we need him just to put the ball in the net where he takes another touch.

“So, that’s where we come in as senior players and just to guide him and to say the first moment you can try to finish it just like the one he did in the final (Nedbank Cup).

“Just one two and then finish so that’s where we trying to help him in those final touches.”

The Namibian international has also added that during their pre-season camp in Spain, Mofokeng showed his readiness to play in Europe, especially against Sevilla and Granada.

“In my view, I think he is ready to be honest because even when we went to Spain now you could see how he was competing against Sevilla against Granada.

“Big teams big names he was playing like he was he was here in the PSL. So, for me, I think he is ready to be honest.”

At the end of the recent DStv Premiership season, reports indicated that Scotland-based team Glasgow Rangers and Egyptian side Al Ahly had shown interest in the player.
