The exit of Mokwena at Sundowns was surprising news after setting a new points-tally record last season by clinching the league title with an impressive 73 points, suffering just one defeat on the last day of the season.

Mokwena claimed he had a special relationship with the Brazilian players and his “amicable” departure from the club saw players and their families affected by Mokwena’s exit.

Zwane said the players at Masandwana respect the club’s decision and aim to compete in every competition in the 2024/25 season.

“Obviously, as players after seeing the news, we have to encourage one another and try to support one another,” Zwane said.

“I know for sure that decisions are always being made in football.

“And we try to respect the decision of the team and try to encourage the guys that they coach still remain the same (respect the coach).

“We still want to win all the trophies that they are competing for. And I feel like the mood is fine and the brotherhood.”

The skipper has also shared that nothing has changed in the camp under coach Manqoba Mngqithi at the helm.

“For us (players), we feel like there is continuity (in terms of style of play), as much we feel like we are edging something that will help us to win all the games we going to play.

“And try to improve the team.”

Sundowns will welcome Polokwane City on 11 August at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in the MTN8 quarter-final clash.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
