Sam is one of the few players to transfer from Orlando Pirates to Chiefs, even though he spent most of his time at Pirates on loan.

The fullback joined the Sea Robbers in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic but has struggled for game-time at Pirates which saw him being loaned out to Maritzburg United and Moroka Swallows.

The 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Glamour Boys, with an option to extend for an additional year.

During the club’s pre-season camp in Turkey, the left-back expressed his thoughts on new head coach Nasreddine Nabi, and the high expectations placed on the players to clinch silverware for the Soweto Giants.

Chiefs, once known as the cup kings in the PSL, have faced a trophy drought, having gone nine years without a major trophy at Naturena.

They recently lost the Toyota Cup to Young Africans, missing out on what could have been a promising start to the new season.

“It’s an honour to me, like, to be one of the players who played for all the teams in Soweto and I’m really happy and excited, can’t wait for the season to start,” Sam told SuperSport TV.

“It was not that difficult for me because of the environment that I’m coming from (Pirates and Swallows), it gave me the platform to be easy to adjust in this journey.

“I want to help the team to go back to the glory days and it’s not only me, I’m sure the guys are also eager to do the same thing and I’m just fortunate I’m being part of that parcel to take the team back to where it belongs.

“I’m so excited because he is coming (Nabi), it’s a great time for us and I think we’re all ready to help him, for him to help us to achieve some things this season.”

Even though the left-back is eager to represent his new club he suffered a setback after picking up an injury during Chiefs’ pre-season camp in Turkey.
