Race 4

CRAFT had finished second in his two runs prior to ending up in tenth place last time out over 1750M, 3.8L behind the winner, but that was on a synthetic surface, which he may not have been suited to. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

ROMAN HANDS was returning from a 28-week break and was held tight over the last 200M when finishing seventh last time out over 1400M, just over seven lengths back from the winner. He jumps from a wideish draw eight but will be having his peak run for his new trainer.

VONK was crowded at the 300M mark when ending up in seventh spot last time out over 1400M, just under eleven lengths adrift of the victor. From his handy draw three and with better luck in running, he should be included in all bets.

Race 5

A 5-year-old mare and two 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but DANCEENUFF is taken to lead the pack home. She won her penultimate start over 1200M and then finished second next time out over 1000M, just a half-length off the winner, this after racing four wide without cover. She returns from a 43-week spell, but has finished second in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being and has pulled draw five.

DAZE OFF showed plenty of toe to win by a half-length on debut over 1200M. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, as well as jumping from one gate inside the top pick, she could complete a quick double.

XSPIRITOUS has cracked pole position and won her penultimate start over 1000M and then finished fourth next time out over the same c&d, 2.7L behind the winner, when returning from a 22-week rest. She would no doubt have come on further with that run under her belt.

Race 6

GUNDY GUY is a three-time winner from just the six starts and won over 1300M three runs back, finished eleventh in his penultimate start over 1400M and then sixth in his latest outing over 1000M, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger centre, and he was returning from a 19m week rest. He sat just behind the leader in that event and chased hard right down to the wire. The gelding jumps from a useful draw three and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

Two 5-year-old mares could chase him home, with the slight preference going to DOOGAN’S DESIGN who returns after a 24-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and fourth in the latest. She went far too quickly up front and hung out throughout when finishing fifth last time 1200M, 3.3L off the winner, so that effort is best ignored. The mare is drawn one inside the former and should be right up there when they hit the line.

YOU’RE ON MUTE had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1200M, albeit by just a head. She struck the front at the 100M mark and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. She has pulled gate five and will have 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, MAKE IT SWEET is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1600M and the latest over 1300M by a head, when returning from 21 a week break and the form of that race has been franked. She delivered a powerful finish from some way back that day and she is sure to put her pole position to good use.

STAR BUYER had finished third in his two runs prior to ending up in fourth place last time out over 1400M, just a half-length back from the victor. The gelding has his peak run for his new trainer since returning from a 31-week spell and despite a wide draw nine, he should keep the top choice honest.

TIZSO FAB went from jump to wire to win his last start over 1500M by a neck. He gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice and from gate five, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
