Race 4

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Of the raced runners, MAGIC SHADOW may well prove to be the best. He had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing when finishing seventh last time out over 1400M, just under seven and a half lengths behind the winner, but he was slow away that day and overraced in the middle stages before coming the widest of them all into the home straight. The form of that race has however stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning and he will get a set of blinkers re-fitted. If this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

BOTTLER put his disappointing penultimate start over 1200M behind him when finishing third next time out over 1000M, 1.8L back from the winner, when returning from a 23-week break. The gelding lost a length at the start that day and was hampered at the 400M mark, but finished strongly from some way back. From gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

ROLLING MAGIC jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and had to be steadied off heels at the 1000M mark, before not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight to end up in seventh place last time out over 1300M, seven lengths adrift of the victor, so he had his excuses. The gelding returns from a 27-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest and from one gate outside the latter, he should be included in all bets.

Race 5

LADY ICHIKAWA has cracked pole position and has finished third in her last three runs, the latest over 1200M, 2.8L back from the winner, but she had to be held up at the entrance of the home stretch in that event, so that effort was encouraging.

ALICE MAE has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when beaten into second place, just a short-head behind the winner over 1200M. She was returning from a 25-week break that day and lost a length at the start, before delivering a powerful finish over the closing stages. The filly faces a wide draw twelve, but she should be doing her best work late.

AUSBRED MIMOSA was bumped at the start and had to be switched at the 250M pole to get a clear run when finishing sixth last time out over 1300M, two and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She is drawn one inside the latter and will be having her peak run after returning from a 24-week spell. As with the previous race, there are several unraced runners in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well.

Race 6

There are four unraced runners in the field, so once again keep an eye on the betting. HARLEM QUEEN is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, finishing third on debut over 1200M and then fourth next time out over 1300M, three and a half lengths off the winner, but it should be noted that she jumped awkwardly on that occasion, bumping another runner. She has her first run after a 13-week rest, but has won her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. The filly will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but she would have come on further with that run under her belt and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

MARAIS finished third in his last two outings, the latest over 1100M, two and a half lengths behind the winner, when returning from a 19-week break, but he raced three wide throughout in that event. The gelding has pulled draw six and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

INDECISIVE was returning from a 21-week rest and was hampered at the 200M pole, but still showed marked improvement to finish fifth last time out over 1100M, 1.8L back from the winner. He is drawn one outside the latter and with better luck in running, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, TINKA’S LAD is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1200M, 1.7L back from the winner, when returning from a 51-week spell and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them. The gelding will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and he is sure to pit his pole position to good use.

ICONIC TREASURE put 2.8L between himself and the opposition to win his last start over 1200M. He raced just behind the frontrunners that day and then struck the front at the 200M mark and the contest was over from that point. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 23-week break and faces a wide draw twelve, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

ONE BEAT NO BEAT is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won over 1400M three runs back, finished fourth in her penultimate start over 1600M and then second in her latest outing over 1500M, beaten just a head, but she raced three wide without cover on that occasion and then came four wide into the home stretch, before being grabbed late. The form of that race has been franked and whilst returning from a 13-week rest, she finished second in her only barrier trial. The filly will have to deal with a wide gate nine, but on the plus side, she will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
