Race 4

WAGGA WAGGA has cracked pole position and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 2100M, beaten just a short-head. He finished strongly that day and the form of that race has been franked.

FUTTAIM won over 2200M three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over 2400M and then sixth in his latest outing over 2400M, three and a half lengths behind the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day. He, on the other hand, is drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, but nevertheless, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

CAMPALDINO missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1700M and 2200M when finishing fifth last time out over 1600M, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner. He was returning from an 11-week rest that day and having his first run for his new yard, but was hampered at the 300M mark on that occasion. From gate six, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

Race 5

BONITA QUEEN is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a 2.3L victory last time out over 1100M, this despite jumping awkwardly and bumping another runner. She recovered quickly to take up the lead and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The filly was reported to have lost a near-fore shoe in running that day and from a handy draw four and with her having her peak run after returning from a 22-week break, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ROMEO’S CHOICE is seldom far off the action and raced up with the speed after jumping awkwardly when finishing fifth last time out over 1200M, two lengths back from the winner. The gelding returns from a 22-week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing third in the latest. From his useful gate two, he could be the biggest threat to the top pick.

GLOBAL EMPIRE won over 1200M three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over 1300M and then fourth again in his latest outing over 1000M, 3.3L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He stayed on well that day and is sure to put his pole position to good use to be involved in the finish.

Race 6

LEICA STORM has won three of his last five starts, the latest over 1600M by putting 2.8L between himself and the opposition. He does return from a 22-week spell, but has finished third in all three of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being. The gelding gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, aided by jumping from pole position.

INFLUENTIAL has finished second in his last two starts over 1600M, the latest beaten just a short-head, but it should be noted that he had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 500M mark and then held up approaching the home turn and then bumped again at the 300M pole, so he had plenty of excuses. The gelding jumps from a cosy gate three and will be hoping to go one better here.

BROK CAFE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she goes for his hat trick after victories over 1200M and the latest over 1300M when just under a half-length back from the winner. She delivered a powerful finish from some way back that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking. The filly has pulled draw seven and will be having her peak run after returning from a 23-week spell.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, WATCH MY GIRL followed up her penultimate run victory over 1600M with a fifth-place finish next time out over the same journey, 4.3L back from the winner, but that was in heavy going, so that effort is best ignored. She has won a subsequent barrier trial and from gate six, she will be hoping to chalk up her third career victory.

AELIANA has only had two runs to date, finishing fourth on debut over 1000M and then showing the expected improvement to win by 1.3L next time out over 1100M. She finished off her race strongly that day and would have come on further with that run under her belt. From a wideish gate eight, she could be good enough to complete a quick double.

PIPPIE BEACH is the stable companion of the latter and has her hat-trick run after two wins over 1300M, the latest by two lengths. She was slow away in that event, but struck the front at the 200M mark to win going away, a victory made all that much better by the fact that her jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight. The filly returns from a 17-week absence, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and from one gate inside the latter, she makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.
