Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 2: MY ANGELFACE(3)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK
MY ANGELFACE fared well in both her comeback efforts after another long absence, possibly due to injury. She was 2nd best over shorter eight days ago and is bred to relish today’s rise in distance. The imported filly still has improvement to come and she should go close from a good draw on her peak showing here.
Race 3: SAVAGE WIND(3)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Joe SOMA
The lack of a solid gallop will suit the useful stayer SAVAGE WIND who made an overdue return to form under a brilliant Khumalo ride recently. The veteran gelding picked up a three pound penalty for his troubles but drops in class now and will again be fitted with blinkers. He has strong claims of following up.
TOP BET
Race 4: MEMPHIS BELLE(8)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS
MEMPHIS BELLE confirmed her debut promise when she stayed on to be 2nd best behind a decent type over this c & d in yielding conditions second time out. She was nearly two lengths clear of the 3rd placed entrant and should have plenty more to offer. She has enough speed to track over from her unfavourable outside barrier and should give another great account of herself.
Race 8: HIERONYMUS(9)
Jockey: Juan-paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Brian WIID
The lack of pace could sway things heavily in the favour of the lightly weighted HIERONYMUS in this competitive handicap. The inmate from the Wiid camp is effective with frontrunning tactics as he show- ed when caught late by subsequent Derby Trial victor Pagoda over nine furlongs in early March. He stayed on to finish just out of the money over this c & d in soft conditions recently and was rather surprisingly docked two pounds in his rating. The son of Judpot should have no issues raising his game in this line-up and this race will be run to suit him. His good draw is an obvious plus.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 7: STAVINSKY(3)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS
The veteran gelding STAVINSKY may have found the marathon trip too far for him, especially under a big mass recently. He didn’t fare that badly though and will undoubtedly prefer today’s drop in distance. The grey was outclassed in back-to-back feature efforts prior to that but went close at a higher level over ten furlongs earlier this year. He is weighted to be very competitive in this line-up and offers good each/way value.
