International Racing: Tamworth – Monday 18 May 2020

A competitive looking eight-race programme is scheduled for Tamworth on Monday. The best bet on the day comes in the last race in the form of AGRAPART.

She was an impressive winner over today’s course and distance. She would have gained from the experience and looks to have ability. From her handy barrier position, she should take a power of beating.

Race 1
The betting market will be the best guide in this contest as one of two first-timers could come to the fore. GALAXY ROCK is a daughter of Stratum from the Cameron Crockett stable with Grant Buckley in the saddle. She produced two decent barrier trials coming into this race, winning one and finishing second in the other. If not too green this afternoon, she may be the one to side with here. STAR DANCER is a two-year-old filly taking on older horses. The daughter of Star Witness hails from the Rodney Northam yard with Andrew Gibbons doing duty. She placed in both her barrier trials leading into this race and could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 2
PANNIER DAME is a filly taking on the males. She has produced two good efforts to date, the latest of which was over seven furlongs on this course when going doing by the narrowest of margins. The manner in which she finished off the race that day suggests that she will enjoy the step up to the mile. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, the daughter of Tavistock should shed her maiden tag. SHAME WARNED may be the first male past the winning post. He showed good improvement in his last start over seven furlongs on this course. He set the pace that day and battled all the way to the finishing post. If repeating that run this afternoon, he should throw out a big challenge to the top selection.

Race 3
This is a weak maiden contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is MANSENETA who is returning from a 23-week break and making his stable debut. He should have no issues with regards to fitness as he has had a barrier trial coming into this race. If settled into his new surroundings, he may be the one they all have to beat. PAIR OF HEELS is a filly taking on the males. She is still a maiden after fourteen starts, but her last two outings have been good. She moved up well over this distance at Moree last time but was outgunned in the closing stages. Ben Looker steps back aboard the daughter of Adelaide and from a good barrier position of three, she may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 4
VALATIA got back to winning ways in his last start over seven furlongs on this course. He settled at the rear of the field last time and chased strongly up the straight. He loves racing over this distance having won six times, finishing second once and third three times from twenty-five attempts. If repeating that last outing, he should notch up his ninth career victory. SADLER’S REST was a surprise winner in his last start over 1450m. He has won once and finished second twice from five attempts over this course and distance. Ashley Morgan who won on him last time, keeps the ride and the pair merit obvious inclusion.

Race 5
TRESCHA produced a good comeback run when returning from a 26-week lay-off last time. The daughter of Albrecht loves racing over this course and distance having won twice and finishing second once from four attempts. She is having her second run after a rest today and should strip a much fitter horse. It is encouraging that Jeff Penza retains the ride. BLAZING TYCOON got back to winning ways in his last start over this course and distance. He raced from a handy position, hit the front at the 175m mark and kept going well to win. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His wide draw shouldn’t pose a concern as he should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

Race 6
INTRICATELY is a filly taking on the males and she is the value bet on today’s programme. She was an impressive winner on debut over the minimum trip at Kempsey. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. The daughter of Fastnet Rock would have gained from the experience and should have more to come. Andrew Gibson does duty which is encouraging and she should be the one they all have to beat. HARD LADY is lightly raced having just had the six career starts. She returns from an 18-week break this afternoon, during which time she would have strengthened up. She makes her course debut and if suited to the track, she may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 7
RONAN’S ROCK produced a very good comeback run when finishing third on this course last time. The son of Fastnet Rock gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and the headgear should keep his mind on the task at hand. Apprentice Samantha Clenton who has a 33%-win strike rate for this conditioner steps into the saddle and she may be able to coax that little bit extra out him where it matters most. TITUS has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He has finished second four times and third four times from eleven attempts over this distance. Kirk Matheson who has a good record when riding for this trainer does duty and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 8
AGRAPART is the best bet on today’s card. She was ultra-impressive when winning her maiden at the second time of asking over this course and distance. She does take on stronger opposition today, but she is lightly raced and looks progressive. The daughter of Exceed And Excel gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice which should help her cause. LORD TONY got back to winning ways in his last start over this course and distance. He loves racing over this track and trip having won twice and finishing third once from as many starts. Apprentice Mikayla Weir knows him well and the combination should be one of the leading contenders for the placings.
