DAKSHA went very
close to winning in his latest attempt which was his first run at this course.
The soft going may have been his undoing on that occasion and the 3-year old
son of Deep Field will be looking to leave the maidens this time. He certainly
has the credentials to get it right this time, having landed in the second box
in two of his three starts to date. Christian Reith retains the ride and he
should be worth following in the first race on the card. SHUWAAMEKH is a close second pick having enjoyed the slight rise in
trip last time. With just three starts to her name, it won’t be long before
this daughter of Snitzel leaves the maidens. She has the weight advantage over
the top selection and should make a race of it.
Race 2 – 05:25 –
1100m – Maiden Handicap
Selections: 6 – 4 – 7
– 2 – 3
The best bet on the card comes in the form of BALLISTIC LOVER. The daughter of Smart
Missile has her third start here and she looks set to take top honours this
time, after a very impressive first up attempt recently. She finds conditions
to suit, with the extra 100m appearing to be exactly what she is looking for. GREAT NEWS should be her biggest
concern, with this daughter of Uncle Mo matching the top selection with runs
under the belt. She gave a useful account of herself in a recent trial, but
with doubts lingering about her fitness, she may just have to settle for minor
money.
Race 3 – 06:05 –
1100m – 2YO Maiden Plate
Selections: 4 – 1 – 8
– 10 – 2
FALCON has his
debut on the back of three impressive barrier trials. The son of Not A Single
Doubt loomed up nicely in that latest effort and if building on the work he has
shown so far, he rates a big threat here. ANDERS
returns to racing after a very good comeback run last time out, when going
handy and challenging strongly in the closing stages. The slight step up in
trip shouldn’t trouble him and he should be one of the leading contenders in
this open Juvenile contest.
Race 4 – 06:40 –
2100m – 3YO & Up Maiden Plate
Selections: 3 – 1 – 8
– 4 – 10
GUNALUVA finished
second last time out, when improving over the extra ground second up. The
3-year old son of Reliable Man settled far back before mounting a strong finish
in that run and he will relish this further step up in distance for his peak
run back. Keagan Latham takes the mount this time from another perfect draw and
he will be right there at the business end. CROWN AFFAIR has been involved in the finish in his last two starts
over slightly shorter and the son of Snitzel finds an ideal field in his bid
for that first career win. He likes to race handy and from barrier 8, he will
be looking to dictate proceedings out in front where he could be tough to pass
in the final phase.
Race 5 – 07:20 –
1600m – Class 1 Handicap
Selections: 7 – 1 – 2
– 4 – 3
BENFICA MAID is
back in Class 1 company after another solid effort last time, when continuing
that solid run of form since her maiden win five starts back. Despite not
winning over this trip in three attempts, she is yet to miss the places and in
this sort of company she should be one of the major contenders to find the
winners enclosure. SIGNIFICANCE
wasn’t disgraced in that post maiden effort last time out, when he just battled
to find extra in the closing stages. The 3-year old son of Frankel returns to
the same course and distance where he smashed the opposition to win his maiden and
if building on that run, he should go close to winning.
Race 6 – 07:55 –
1200m – Class 1 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 6 – 3
– 7 – 2
FIERY RED returns
to racing for his first outing this year and if bringing his recent trial form
to the plate, he should be a big runner. The son of Snitzel has won first up
before and he certainly won’t be too in need of this outing. With the expected
scope for improvement, he looks the one to beat in fairly open contest. HEAD SPINS caught the eye last time
when storming home from way back in the field to finish second. He has his peak
run after a rest here and he too will have plenty of scope for improvement.
Ashley Morgan retains the ride and they should be very competitive.
Race 7 – 08:35 –
1200m – Class 1 Handicap
Selections: 8 – 4 – 5
– 2 – 3
TYPHOON BONNY
carried that hefty weight well last time out, in the Jardel Cup over 1200m. She
returns to Wyong for her second start here, having finished second in her only
other attempt. She drops in class now and if continuing her recent form, she
has the credentials to get the better of this field. SALSA MAN has finished third in his last four starts and he has a
decent opportunity to go right into contention for a win here. The 4-year old
son of I Am Invincible has a solid record over this course and distance and
from a plum draw with Jeff Penza up, he must be considered.
