International Racing: Wednesday 13 May 2020 – Chantilly

Racing heads 50km north of Paris to Chantilly which plays host to a competitive ten-race programme. Race 7 on the card is a Group 3 event open to three-year olds over six furlongs. The best bet on the day is CELESTIN who takes his place in Race 1. He was ultra-impressive when winning his last two starts over this distance. He has his first run this year and if not in need of the run, should take a power of beating.

Race 1 – PRIX DU BELVEDERE
CELESTIN is the best bet on today’s card. He won his
maiden race by 3.5 lengths in his penultimate start and followed that up with
an even more impressive win in a Listed feature race beating the second-place
finisher by 6.5 lengths. He has been given a six-month break, during which time
he would have strengthened up. Christophe Soumillon steps back into the saddle
today and the combination should be hard to beat. DELTA SPIRIT didn’t enjoy
racing on the all-weather surface in his last start. He is a much better horse
on the grass with a record of a win, three seconds and two third place finishes
from seven outings. He should come into the race at peak fitness and should be
one of the leading contenders for the placings. CORONADO BEACH is a winner
of his last two starts. He won his maiden well over 1300m and followed that up
with a short head victory over 1500m at Deauville on the all-weather surface.
He has his first run on turf this afternoon and if suited to the track, he
should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 2 – PRIX DE LA PISTOLE
SIMEEN is unbeaten from two career outings thus far,
both of which were over seven furlongs. The manner in which she has finished
off her races to date suggests that she will enjoy the step up to the mile
today. She returns from a nine month lay-off, during which time she would have
strengthened up. Regular pilot Christophe Soumillon rides the daughter of Lope
De Vega once again and the combination should keep their unbeaten record intact
this afternoon. BIONIC WOMAN was considered good enough to contest in a
Group 1 race in her last start and she was far from disgraced. She finished 4.5
lengths behind the winner over this distance at Longchamp. She does take a
drop-in class this afternoon and if not in need of the run, she should be the
one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. TWELVE BROS got back to winning ways in her last over seven furlongs at Saint Cloud.
She should be one of the fitter horses coming into this contest and with
in-form Maxime Guyon in the saddle, she must be included in all bets.

This contest is for
unraced two-year old fillies over the minimum trip. The betting market will be the
best guide with regards to their chances. TORTOLA is a daughter of
Goken from the Ludovi Gadbin stable. She gets the services of Fabrice Veron and
from her handy barrier position, she may be the one to side with here. ROSE GOLD is a daughter of Tamayuz from the Andrea Marcialis yard. It is
encouraging that jockey Mickael Barzalona does duty this afternoon. If not too
green today, she may be right there in the run down to the finishing post. LIVACHOPE is another horse by the stallion Goken. She hails from the stable of Jane
Soubagne with Anthony Crastus in the saddle. If not too green on her first day
at the races, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 4 – PRIX D’ORGEMONT
Another contest for
the unraced juveniles, this time for the colts and geldings. ONEONECHOP is a son of Kheleyf from the Andrew Hollinshead yard with Maxime Guyon in
the saddle. He jumps from a handy barrier position of two and should be the one
they all have to beat. CHANT
D’AUTOMNE
hails from the yard of A
& G Botti. He is a son of Dabirsim with 1.5kg claiming apprentice Mickaelle
Michel in the irons. He is related to three-time winner Droit De Parole. From
his good draw of four, he should be right there in the run down to the
finishing post. ARCTICO is a son of Elvstroem from the Henri-Alex
Pantall yard. He gets the services of top jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot and if
not too green, should run into the money. Once again, it is very important to
keep an eye on the betting market to see which of the horses are fancied.
All the horses in this race have not had a run and the betting market
will need to be monitored to see what the respective connections think about
their chances of winning are. UP
AND GO
is a filly by Mayson out of
an Irish mare, Precoce. She races out of the yard of Andrea Marcialis and gets
the services of the capable Mickael Barzalona. She will have the advantage of
racing from pole position and may be the one to side with here. DIA DE MUERTOS is a grey daughter of Charm Spirit and is the stable companion of the
top selection. She gets the services of Cristian Demuro and from her handy draw
of three, should be involved in the fight out to the finish. TEAGRA hails from the A & G Botti yard. She is a daughter of Garswood and
gets the services of 1.5kg claiming apprentice Mickaelle Michel. She is drawn
in between the top two choices and must be included in all bets.
Race 6 – PRIX DES VENEURS
The grey SPIRIT INTIME made the necessary improvement to win his maiden race at the second time
of asking over 1500m on the all-weather surface at Deauville. He returns from a
five month break this afternoon and drops to six furlongs, but the engagement
of jockey Mickael Barzalona is encouraging. He does take a step up in class,
but he is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. The son of Mafki
jumps from a handy position today and should be the one they all have to beat. HURRICANE IVOR took on Group 3 company in his last start over the minimum distance on
this course. He takes a drop back in class this afternoon and with
Pierre-Charles Boudot retaining the ride, he should be the one to throw out the
biggest challenge to the top selection. GOLD STEP’S recent form has
been fair. He does however return to racing over his favourite distance having
won once and finishing third twice from four attempts over this trip. Gerald
Mosse steps back into the saddle this afternoon and on best form shown, should
be right there in the run down to the wire.
Race 7 – PRIX TEXANITA
(Group 3)
This is a Group 3
contest for three-year olds over six furlongs. MY LOVE’S PASSION is yet to
be unplaced from five career starts to date. She ran a good race when finishing
third in Listed company over 1100m on this course. She should come into this
race at peak fitness and with Christophe Soumillon in the saddle once again,
the daughter of Elvstroem looks very tough to beat. MUTUAL could be the first
male past the winning post. He is a winner of his last two starts, the latest
of which was over this distance. He does face his toughest test this afternoon,
but he clearly has ability and should be up to the task at hand. Regular pilot Julien
Auge rides once again and the combination merit healthy respect. GRATIANE is a maiden taking on winners, but she has not finished too far off the
winner in recent outings. She should have no concerns with regards to fitness
today and must be included in all bets.
Race 8 – PRIX DE ROISSY
KILFRUSH MEMORIES is the value bet on today’s programme. He has
shown some signs of returning to best form in his last two starts. He has won
once, finished second once and third once from nine outings over this distance,
plus he has finished third twice from three starts on this course. It is
encouraging that Stephane Pasquier does duty this afternoon and the combination
could cause the upset. MUTTRAH
FORT
who is a son of Dubawi produced some decent form before given a seven month lay-off. His record
over this distance is encouraging having won twice and finishing second four
times from eleven attempts. Pierre-Charles Boudot knows him well and the pair
merit healthy respect. SLICKTEG got back to winning ways in his last start
over this distance at Fontainebleau. He has won once and finished third once
from four outings on this course. In-form Mickael Barzalona steps into the
saddle this afternoon and the pair should be right there in the run down to the
finishing post.

Race 9 – PRIX DE VERSIGNY
This a weak Class 3
Handicap and caution is advised. The narrow first choice is NOORDHOUT who is much better than his last two starts in Class 2 company suggests.
He loves racing on the turf having won four times, finishing second once and
third five times from nineteen outings. He finished third in his only attempt
on this course. If not in need of this outing, he should be the one they all
have to beat. SHAMS BRAZILERO is a winner of his last two starts over
1300m on the all-weather surface. He finished second in his only attempt on
this course. The son of Shamardal should come into this race at peak fitness
and may be the one to pick up the pieces should the top selection fluff his
lines. BELLCANTO got back to winning ways in his last start
over 1100m. He has won four times, finished second five times and third once
from nineteen attempts over this distance. If confirming his recent
improvement, he should be right there in the fight out to the finish.

Race 10 – PRIX DE ROSIERES

Another weak Class 3
Handicap closes off the meeting. The tentative first selection is
LIGHTOLLER
with Maxime Guyon in
the saddle.
He has finished in the first three placings in his
last three outings. Maxime Guyon steps into the saddle this afternoon and if
continuing his good run of form, he should be the one they all have to beat.
HAPPY
DREAM
has not finished too far off the winner in recent
outings. He gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice who knows him well
and if able to overcome the wide barrier position, he should be the one to
throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.
DOBBY
FIRST
showed good signs of returning to best form in his
last start. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from twelve
attempts over this distance. Mickael Barzalona hops aboard the son of Dobby
Road this afternoon and the pair merit healthy respect.
