International Racing: Friday 1 May 2020 – Wagga

International Racing: Thursday 30 April 2020 – Cairns

A very tricky card faces punters at Wagga this Friday 1st May 2020. The headline event on the programme comes in the 7th race, the Listed Wagga Wagga Gold Cup over 2000m and it appears to be wide-open with a number of contenders looking to go into contention. NUREMBURG CASTLE appears to be one of the better bets on the card. With more to come over slightly further, he will be looking to add to his win tally in the 2nd race on the card. See more here.

Race 1 – 04:35 –
1000m – Class 3 Handicap
Selections: 6 – 1 – 3
– 5 – 4
ONYA MARKS looks
to be worth following in the opening event on the card. She gave a solid
account of herself when returning to racing last time out, after an 8-month
absence. The daughter of Helmet went forward early and gave a sight before
being overhauled in the closing stages. That was in Class 2 company and she
will strip a lot fitter this time, for her follow up effort over the same trip.
A two-time winner from 6-attempts over the trip, she should be a big factor
here. BISCARA won her last start
which happened to be a first up effort after a rest. She beat the top selection
in that run and she too will strip fitter here. An ultra-consistent performer
over this trip, she should be a big factor once again and deserves inclusion. MAJOR DANGER needed his last start when
returning from a rest and the run would’ve brought him on nicely for this
return to Class 3 level. With seven starts under his belt, he should have scope
for more to come and must be considered a big danger.

Race 2 – 05:15 –
1200m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 4 – 10 –
9 – 6 – 2
NUREMBURG CASTLE
gave a solid account of himself on debut at this course recently. The son of
Holy Roman Emperor stormed home for a close up second on that occasion and with
the improvement to come, over slightly further, he should be tough to oppose
here. MISS ELSIE MAY has been just
touched off in her last two starts which happened to be over this course and
distance. With just five starts to her name, she will have the improvement to
come and with Shaun Guymer retaining the ride, must be included. GLORIOUS DREAM has only had the two
starts so far, showing good improvement in her latest effort when finishing
just 1,60-lengths off the winner. That was a first up run after her modest
debut towards the end of November and if stripping fitter here, she should be
one of the leading contenders.

Race 3 – 05:50 –
1200m – BM64 Handicap
Selections: 5 – 11 –
4 – 2 – 7
BEDAZZLED hasn’t
been beaten by far in his last 4 starts in this sort of company and he comes
into this race with a solid record over this trip and on the back of a very
encouraging effort last time out. He produced his best over the final 400m on
that occasion and with his regular pilot aboard, he will certainly give his
followers another good run for their money. ZELAGO has won his last two starts and he has a nice opportunity to
notch up his hat-trick here. He drops back slightly in trip, but the increased
tempo should suit him and despite the slight rise in class, he looks a threat
and must be included for minor money. VINNIE
VEGA
and UPPER HOUSE have been
thereabouts of late and they must be considered in wider perms.

Race 4 – 06:25 –
1300m – BM58 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 7 – 3
– 2 – 4
The top-weighted NIECES
AND NEPHEWS
has a solid record to his name from just the eight outings so
far. He has managed to pick up three wins along the way and doesn’t look like
he is stopping there. The son of Zariz won his last start over this trip in
similar company and with the 3kg claim off his back, he looks set for another
big performance in an open event. LEG
WORK
was a winner in his last start, and he followed that up with a smart
trial recently. He steps up slightly in trip for his handicap debut, but the
manner in which he won his maiden suggests he will relish the extra ground and
with scope for improvement, he should be one of the leading contenders here. LET’S GET ANIMAL has won and finished runner-up in his two attempts over this
trip and he is going to relish this step up in trip after not enjoying the
quick tempo over 900m last time out. The 4-year old son of Animal Kingdom is in
useful form and must be considered.

Race 5 – 07:05 –
1400m – BM66 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 8 –
11 – 7 – 3
GOT YOUR SIX
followed up that win in her penultimate start with another good effort last
time out. She led the field through the 100m mark before being collared in the
closing stages. That was in a similar class over this trip and the ultra-consistent
daughter of Snitzel should be a major contender once again, if repeating that
effort. ARROGANT LASS clearly
enjoyed her break if her last two starts are anything to go by. She has her
peak run back here and will relish stepping back up to a trip where she has
notched up two wins from three attempts. Drawn well, she rates a big threat. AWAY SHE GOES steps up slightly in class after winning against her own sex
last time out. She was ultra-impressive in that run, having been caught back in
the running before mounting a massive challenge to overhaul the field in the
dying stages. A three-time winner from 13 attempts over this trip, she will
relish the slight rise in distance and must be included.

Race 6 – 07:40 –
1600m – BM74 Handicap (3Up)
Selections: 3 – 2 – 6
– 5 – 9
Another wide-open contest greets punter in the 6th
race and the tentative first selection goes to FOXBOROUGH. The 3-year old daughter of Dissident has been in good
consistent form prior to her last start when she didn’t enjoy the easiest of
trips. Caught wide throughout, the 3,7-length defeat is flattering as far as
the winner is concerned and from a plum draw this time, she should go right
into contention. She has only missed the first three places once from five
attempts and she will be right there with a massive shout once again. LANCER has been thereabouts in his last
few starts and with just eight outings behind him, he should still have scope
to improve. He was only beaten by 1,40-lengths in his last start, when stepping
up to the 1550m and if building on that effort over the mile, he should go into
contention at the finish.

Race 7 – 08:20 –
2000m – Gold Cup Listed
Selections: 5 – 7 – 3
– 9 – 12
SAVACOOL comes
into this Listed event on the back of a smart effort in Group 3 company last
time out. The Chris Waller inmate was making steady progress over the final
400m on that occasion and despite the fact that she is yet to win from five
attempts over this trip, she has placed on three occasions in decent company.
Kathy O’Hara retains the ride on the daughter of Savabeel and they have big
claims for first prize. HOUSE OF CARTIER
comes into this event on the back of a decent effort in Group 2 company last
time out. That was in heavy going over 2600m and she should enjoy dropping back
to the 2000m where she gave a solid account of herself in her penultimate
outing, at Group 3 level. If building on that run, she should be a major
contender at the business end. MAURUS
has started to show signs of a big performance in recent times and the 9-year
old son of Medicean will be looking to convert that form into a stakes cheque
here. He has his peak run back after a rest and having enjoyed the step up to
his trip at Randwick last time out, he will be out to make his presence felt
here.

Race 8 – 09:00 –
1200m – Class 1 Handicap
Selections: 2 – 3 – 7
– 5 – 10

SHELBY SIX picked
up his maiden victory last time out, at just the 3rd time of asking.
That was his second outing over this course and distance and the son of
Toronado should have plenty more to come. The manner in which he won his last
start suggests the step into handicap company at this level should be within
his grasp and with his regular pilot aboard, he should be able to follow up. KAIPAKI has found some useful form
since returning to racing this year. Drawn in the cheap seats, he will have
plenty of work to do, but he has a useful finish and should be able to make up
ground in the closing stages. TALAHINA
followed up her maiden win with a very encouraging effort last time out over
this course and distance. The 3-year old daughter of Not A single Doubt returns
to a similar class of opposition here and with scope for further improvement, she
must be included.
