Will Rogers Downs Best Bets

(21:15) Race 3 Maiden Special Weight: No2 – DRAMACIDE
Trainer: H Ashford Jr – Jockey: Ken Tohill

DRAMACIDE has been unwanted in the betting on both starts in maidens but shown ability to make him the form pick in this. His running style suggests the step up to a mile should prove right up his street, while he has a better draw than likely market rival NOVEMBER MIKE. The latter finished one place behind him in the same race over six furlongs here and I expect the placings to be confirmed. WILLY SPECIAL CATS has yet to finish out of the frame in three starts, attracting support over course and distance last time. He looks sure to get into it.

Prediction: 2-9-1

(22:15) Race 5 Maiden Claiming: No6 – WHISKY FACTOR
Trainer: Robertino Diodoro – Jockey: Ty Kennedy

WHISKY FACTOR has put in a couple of earning runs over track and trip while carrying extra, and should now be cherry ripe to open his account for a formidable trainer/jockey combo. He’s going to be fitter for this test in which GOLD NOTE is respected and can menace from the rail, returning to his optimum distance. WEST COAST BROKER started 33-1 on both recent appearances here but will be a lot shorter after his frame finish last time, which points to him enjoying the step up in distance.

Prediction: 6-1-2

(23:45) Race 8 Allowance: No1 – MILTONTOWN
Trainer: Robertino Diodoro – Jockey: Ty Kennedy

The versatility shown by MILTONTOWN in bagging successful triumphs at this level over a range of distance makes him the one to beat in the best race on the card. Taruca has seen his disappearing silhouette on both occasions, with the selection drawing support and getting the job done very effectively under today’s jockey. While GRADE ONE should improve on the second start for his handler he probably won’t be ready, leaving VANGILDER as a potential improver from a new barn, but having to cope with the return from 234 days off and a class hike.

Prediction: 1-4-7
