International Racing: Tuesday 28 April 2020 – Taree

A nine-race programme is scheduled for Mackay on Tuesday. The best bet is AZIOC in Race 2. She has produced two good runs over 1100m, the first of which was on this course. There is one horse to beat in the form of HARD CURRENCY, but she is lightly raced and looks to have more scope.

Race 1
ASK ME TOMORROW won his maiden at the second time of asking
over this course and distance. He raced from a mid-field position that day, ran
on strongly and despite hanging up the straight, he caught the leader late. It
must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He does take on
stronger this afternoon, but he looks to have some class. From pole position
and with Brad Pengelly in the saddle, he should be the one to side with here. QUEEN OF STYLE is a filly taking on the males and she has produced two good runs since
given a well-deserved 12-week break. She ran a good race when finishing third
over this distance at Rockhampton. Apprentice Elyce Smith knows her very well
and the pair should pose a big threat to the top selection.
Race 2
AZIOC produced two promising efforts over 1100m.
She settled in a mid-field position last time and hit the line strong. The
extra distance on offer this afternoon will suit the daughter of Americain well
and she should go one better here.
HARD CURRENCY
has finished
runner-up in his last two starts. He raced from a handy position over a mile
last time and stayed on well at the business end. In his penultimate effort
over 1300m, things didn’t go his way as he jumped awkwardly and raced three
wide without cover. With a bit of luck in running this afternoon, he should be
right there in the fight out to the finish.

Race 3
MAGIC CODY shed his maiden tag at Rockhampton over 1100m
in his last start. He took over the lead at the 300m mark and kept going well
to notch up the victory. It must be noted that the form of that race has been
franked. The son of Magic Albert takes on stronger this afternoon, but he is
lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. SANTISIMO has not finished
too far behind the winner in recent outings. He has won twice and finished
third four times from nine attempts over this distance. He won his only attempt
over this course and trip, and should the top selection fluff his lines, he may
be the one to pick up the pieces.
Race 4
HARRY ROCKET followed his maiden win up with a very good
second placed finish at Rockhampton last time. He has done well this season
having won once, finishing second three times and third once from eight starts.
Brad Pengelly is yet to be unplaced aboard the son of Snitzem and the pair
should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. MIRACULOUS ran a very good
race when returning from an 18-week break last time. She moved up really well
that day but was gunned down in the late stages. It must be noted that the form
of that race has been franked. Martin Haley retains the ride and the pair
should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 5
This is a
competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is HADRIAN who was an impressive winner of his last start over a mile at
Rockhampton. He runs well over this distance having won twice from three
attempts. Ashley Butler who has had success aboard the son of Sebring in the
past does duty today and the pair may be the ones to side with here. ELLE A WALKING has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He has won
twice and finished second twice from eight starts on this course. In-form 1.5kg
claiming apprentice Elyce Smith knows him well and the pair should be the ones
to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.
Race 6
PLANET WARRIOR shed his maiden tag at Rockhampton over a
mile last time. He raced from a handy position that day, took over the lead at
the 300m mark and kept going well to notch up the victory. He does take on
stronger this afternoon, but there looks to be more to come from the son of So
You Think. Stanley Watkin keeps the ride and the pair may find themselves in
the winner’s enclosure once again. FEATHER
YOUR NEST
is a filly taking on
males. She is not the most consistent sort but cannot be ignored. She has won
once and finished second twice from five starts on this course. Drawn very
wide, she is likely to race from off the speed and should mow down the
frontrunners in the run down to the wire.
Race 7
INQUIRY is a winner of his last three starts. He has
had a very good season thus far having won four times and finishing second
twice from seven outings. Jockey Ashley Butler has a decent 22%-win strike rate
for this trainer. He jumps from a positive barrier position today and has a
very good chance from notching up his eighth career victory. SWEET SURPRISE’S last two starts at Rockhampton have been
good. She runs well for today’s apprentice having won once and finishing second
once from as many starts. Should the top selection fluff his lines, she may be
the one to pick up the pieces.
Race 8
PAUA finished a length behind the winner in his
last start over six furlongs at Rockhampton. He has a decent record this season
having won twice, finished second once and third once from seven outings. He is
likely to race on the speed today and may be hard to peg back in the closing
stages. EPHESIAN is a winner of his only effort over this
course and distance. Tasha Chambers who has finished second aboard the son of
Fastnet Rock in the past does duty and from his positive barrier position, he
should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
Race 9
TARAKI produced a very good comeback run when
finishing second over six furlongs at Rockhampton last time. She was returning
from a lengthy 41-week lay-off that day. She has also finished third three
times from four efforts over this distance. The daughter of Mahisara should
strip much fitter this afternoon and she has a good chance of going one better.
ABSOLUTE BONZA showed good signs of returning to best form
in his last start. He has finished second twice and third twice from seven
outings over this distance. With a wide draw to contend with, he should use his
early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
