German Bundesliga: Gameweek 5 Preview

The German Bundesliga standings now have a more familiar look at the top of the table with RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund leading the way as the dominant trio all picked up wins last weekend.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen finally claimed their first victory of the campaign to leave Mainz rooted at the foot of the table with no points after four matches. There’s value on offer in this weekend’s betting, don’t miss out on our 7/1 quad.

Standings provided by SofaScore LiveScore

Friday 23 October

Stuttgart 21/20

Draw 26/10

Cologne 23/10

(20:30)

Newly-promoted Stuttgart come into the encounter full of confidence after winning two of their last three games and drawing the other when they hosted the much stronger Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has a few big boys up top that hold onto the ball and bring others into the game much like the Olivier Giroud role for France and Chelsea. Worrying signs continue to be seen for Cologne who are winless in four matches, picking up their first point in a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. The Billy Goats need to improve quickly in order to avoid a season-long battle against relegation. We’ve been spoilt for goals when these sides meet, get the ball rolling with Both Teams to Score (Yes) at 5/10 odds.

Saturday 24 October

RB Leipzig 9/20

Draw 39/10

Hertha Berlin 5/1

(15:30)

RB Leipzig continued their belting start to the season by tallying another win against Augsburg thanks to goals by their key players, wing-back Angelino and forward Yussuf Poulsen, while both assists were provided by Spaniard Daniel Olmo. Julian Nagelsmann’s Red Bulls will be aiming to claim maximum points before traveling to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday night. Hertha Berlin need to pull up their socks, following their 4-1 opening day victory at Werder Bremen. The Old Lady have lost three consecutive matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich and Stuttgart which doesn’t bode well for the chances at the home of the log-leaders. RB Leipzig is my banker for the weekend at 9/20.

Union Berlin 5/4

Draw 47/20

Freiburg 21/10

(15:30)

Union Berlin and Freiburg both enter this match in the exact same form (P:4, W:1, D:2 L:1) and also come off 1-1 draws to Werder Bremen and Schalke respectively. Union Berlin were impressive on home soil where they accumulated most of the points, while Freiburg found it difficult on their travels. These sides met three times last season with Union Berlin claiming two victories and losing the most recent meeting when they were down to 10-men. The hosts are tipped to edge this encounter at decent odds of 5/4.

Bayern Munich 2/9

Draw 6/1

Eintracht Frankfurt 9/1

(15:30)

Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 20 matches at the Allianz Arena across all competitions. Hansi Flick’s men host Atletico Madrid in midweek action before this game. The Bavarians will be properly tested by Diego Simeone’s men but will still have enough in the tank to steamroll the visitors. Eintracht Frankfurt have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign with two draws and two wins but it will surely end this weekend. Take Bayern Munich on the (-1) Handicap at 5/10.

Mainz 37/10

Draw 31/10

Borussia Monchengladbach 13/20

(15:30)

Mainz will be looking to put their first points on the board and move off the foot of the table after suffering four consecutive league defeats. Borussia Monchengladbach have struggled to replicate the consistency from last season, only winning once in four games, drawing twice and losing to Borussia Dortmund on the opening day. The Foals will face Inter Milan and Real Madrid in their first two UEFA Champions League matches. If the visitors can’t thrash Mainz, then they have bigger problems coming against the European heavyweights. Select Borussia Monchengladbach to beat Mainz on the (-1) Handicap for the third consecutive meeting at 31/20.

Borussia Dortmund 1/4

Draw 52/10

Schalke 10/1

(18:30)

Borussia Dortmund will host Schalke in the first Revierderby of the season after winning three of their first four league games, losing the other to Augsburg in a cagey, hard-tackling affair. Schalke are in poor form losing three times and drew 1-1 with Union Berlin last time out to earn their first point of the new season. The Yellow and Blacks imposed their dominance over Schalke in a 4-0 thrashing in May. More of the same is expected, back Dortmund on the (-1) Handicap at 6/10.

Sunday 25 October

Wolfsburg 7/10

Draw 28/10

Arminia Bielefeld 38/10

(16:30)

Wolfsburg are the only team in the division to draw their first four matches and will be hoping to go one better and claim the win against the newly-promoted opponent. Arminia Bielefeld also have four points but come off back-to-back defeats to Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich. My money is on the Wolves to break their duck of stalemates and claim maximum points at the Volkswagen Arena at 7/10.

Werder Bremen 37/20

Draw 26/10

Hoffenheim 13/10

(19:00)

Werder Bremen are unbeaten in their last three league matches after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to Hertha Berlin. The Green-Whites beat both Schalke and Arminia Bielefeld before sharing the spoils away at Freiburg. After a flying start to the season, Hoffenheim were beaten in consecutive games against the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund. The visitors did the league double over Werder Bremen last season and my money is on them to make it three in a row at 13/10 odds.

Monday 26 October

Bayer Leverkusen 13/20

Draw 31/10

Augsburg 38/10

(21:30)

Bayer Leverkusen picked up their first win after three straight draws and will now take aim at Augsburg in between their opening UEFA Europa League matches against Nice and Slavia Prague. Augsburg’s unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to RB Leipzig. The visitors have shown that they can beat the fancied team, this was highlighted in the upset against Borussia Dortmund just a few weeks ago. Leverkusen have won the last four meetings but this isn’t the same group of players, therefore my money is on the Augsburg Double Chance at decent odds of 12/10.

QUAD @ 7/1

RB Leipzig Win 9/20

Bayern Munich (-1) Handicap 5/10

Borussia Dortmund (-1) Handicap 6/10

Hoffenheim Win 13/10
