Race 4.

The day’s best bet, LORD WINSTON showed the expected improvement to win at the second time of asking, putting 1.8L between himself and the opposition over 1300M, this despite jumping awkwardly. He kicked clear at the 250M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has been franked and from gate seven, he seems likely to enjoy the step up in distance and could prove hard to topple. BAK DA MAN had finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, culminating with a two and a half length win last time out over 1500M. He was slow away and came five wide into the home straight before finding a powerful finish that day. He jumps from draw five and looks to be the biggest danger to the top choice. TIM’S PRINCIPAL finished seventh in his latest outing over a mile, three and a half lengths back from the winner, but he was held up at the 200M pole and also struck by another jockey’s crop, so should have finished closer to the winner as a result. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 5.

There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners PETULANT may prove to be the best. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she showed plenty of toe to finish second on debut over five furlongs, one length behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she should be right up there when they hit the line, notwithstanding a wideish draw nine. LUCKY SUN has cracked pole position and is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over 1100M, four lengths adrift of the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He returns from a 22 week rest, but has won both of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being. ONE WAY STREET overraced in the early stages, but still managed to hit the front at the 150M mark before ending up in second place last time out over five furlongs, just under a half length behind the winner. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 6.

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, EMBELLER to chalk up her third career victory. She jumped awkwardly and then had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 800M mark when overracing, before coming four wide into the home stretch to end up in sixth spot, 3.3L behind the winner. She has her first run since a 22 weeks break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials to prove her fitness. She now gets gate five which should not cause her any harm. SACHELLO missed out on her hat-trick after two victories over five furlongs when finishing sixth last time out when stepping up to six furlongs, three lengths adrift of the winner. She will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but will get 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice. TUDOR MUSIC on the other hand, will jump from a kinder draw three and was denied a clear run at the 250M pole when ending up in fifth spot last time out over five furlongs, 3.7L behind the winner. With better luck in running today, she should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 7.

MIDORI BEAUTY jumped awkwardly and came the widest of them all into the home straight, but still managed to finish strongly to win his last outing over six furlongs by a short-head. He has also had two subsequent barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. From his cozy draw three, he looks to be the one to side with here. A 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could chase him home, with the marginal choice going to SHALSTAR who finished second on debut over five furlongs, one length behind the winner and then won her next start over the same sprint trip by a half length. She is drawn one outside the top pick and should be right up there in the mix. HASTY DUCHESS won over this six furlong sprint three runs back and was slow away last time out when ending up in fourth spot over the same distance, just over a length and a half behind the winner. She returns from a 39 week absence and three barrier trials and although she has pulled a wideish gate seven, she should be a big runner in this line-up.
