Today’s DStv Premiership action sees Cape Town City take on Kaizer Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium. Chiefs had an impressive campaign away from home last term. The Glamour Boys won 7 of their 15 away league fixtures in the 2021/22 DSTV Premiership season, only Mamelodi Sundowns (8) won more away ties.

Furthermore, AmaKhosi conceded just 11 league goals on their travels during that period, only Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch (both 10) conceded fewer from all top-flight clubs.

The other game sees Swallows take on Sekhukhune at the Dobsonville Stadium. Since Dylan Kerr’s appointment, only Sundowns (22), Cape Town City (17) and Orlando Pirates (15) have scored more home league goals than Swallows (14).

Keet key in City finding their feet

Cape Town City have conceded 13 league goals this year, however, eight of those have come in their previous five league fixtures. Hugo Marquees was in sensational form but has recently parted ways with the club. Experienced veteran Darren Keet, has since stepped up keeping and provided some stability, as seen by their back-to-back draws. While those results aren’t the most impressive, it’s worth mentioning that they were preceded by three consecutive defeats.

Mabasa thriving at Sekhukhune

Tshegofatso Mabasa has hit the ground running at Sekhukhune United. The attacker bagged his and Sekhukhune’s first league goal of this campaign during the opening weekend and followed that up with an assist last time out against Mamelodi Sundowns. The former Buccaneer was involved in three goals across his 16 league appearances for Orlando Pirates last term – one fewer than he has managed in just four league outings for Babina Noko.

Allan taking flight at Swallows

Keegan Allan had a debut to remember last time out. The former Tuks defender penned a two-year deal with the Dube Birds, with the partnership getting off the a promising start. Amaswaiswai came out on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller at the Dobsonville Stadium but Allan netted both of his side’s goals against Usuthu. The 21-year-old now will look to follow that up with a clean sheet when his side come up against Sekhukhune United.

Solomons from the spot

Dillon Solomons netted from the spot in front of a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium last time out as he gave his side their 2nd league win of the campaign. The was at Swallows last season, where three of his four league goals came from the spot. Solomons is one of a number of additions to the Chiefs squad aiming to end their ongoing trophy drought.

Gonzalez must step up as Cape Town City edge toward crisis

Darwin Gonzalez opened his account for the season last time out. The Venezuelan attacker finished the 2021/22 season with one goal to his name across his 10 league appearances. The dangerman will be aiming to add to his tally and comes up against a Kaizer Chiefs team who have conceded five league goals on their travels this term – the most from all top-flight clubs. Failure to win here will heap massive pressure on Eric Tinkler whose side currently prop up the DStv Premiership table.
