Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Exeter and Newcastle on Tuesday 21 January 2020.
Exeter Best Bets
Race 1: KILCONNY BRIDGE (4)
Trainer: Anthony Honeyball
Jockey: Aidan Coleman
As a winner of two of his three starts KILCONNY BRIDGE sets the standard for the others to aim at in this mares’ maiden hurdle. Her trainer has sent out some of his heavy artillery in recent days and without saying she is destined for high honours the 6yo should take care of these foes after beating all but Full Of Surprises at Catterick last time.
Race 7: PRIME VENTURE (3)
Trainer: Evan Williams
Jockey: Adam Wedge
PRIME VENTURE has rubbed shoulders with some decent tackle so far this season but now gets the chance to really show what he’s made of. He fell on his latest start at Haydock but is worth persevering with in a race that will be tactical.
Newcastle Best Bets
Race 5: PORTLEDGE (2)
Trainer: James Bethell
Jockey: Hollie Doyle
The blinkered PORTLEDGE returns from a lengthy absence but has very good form at this course and is fresh and fancied for an earning run. A winner over the course and distance, he was a 33-1 shot when posting a creditable third placing behind Barristan The Bold back in July and is now dropped from a Class 3 into a Class 4.
Race 7: GUNMAKER (8)
Trainer: Ruth Carr
Jockey: James Sullivan
If getting the breaks at the end of this sprint GUNMAKER should be firmly in the mix. A strong traveller, he lost out in a blanket finish over this course and distance earlier in the month and looks like a horse on the cusp of an overdue win.
